My little one has just turned 6 weeks I’m eagerly awaiting her first proper smile. She was born at 39 + 4. Just wondering when your little ones gave that first beautiful not wind related smile!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My LO was starting just before 3 weeks and we got a real smile at 3 weeks but, like others, she was 11 days overdue.

Hickpusher · 27/08/2021 08:44

LO just turned 8 weeks still not smiling yet 😩

I have 4 children, 3 of whom smiled at 5 weeks and 1 at 3 weeks. But they were very very fleeting in the early days. As in... Blink and you miss it Smile

Dc1 - 2 days (midwife confirmed def not wind)
Dc2 - 6 weeks
Dc3 - 9 weeks
Dc4 - 7 months
Dc5 - 5 months (at the HV after I'd just told her I was worried because he wasn't smiling yetHmm)

Hickpusher · 27/08/2021 16:29

@elliejjtiny that’s reassuring! I know I shouldn’t worry and she will smile in her own time but being a FTM it’s hard not to worry. She was a bit of a traumatic delivery so I think that’s added stress. She is so alert and follows me with her eyes and coo’s and babbles away so I know that’s all positive signs. I’m just waiting and wishing for that big gummy smile! X

It will be worth the wait when it happens. Baby smiles are so lovely (leaves thread before I get broody).

gemloving · 27/08/2021 18:47

I was never quite sure if the ones between week 6-8 we're actually real smiles. From 9-10 weeks they were real ones xx

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 18:50

Really really early.

So I thought oh it must be wind.

Then I saw my parents and my dad said she's smiling! And I said no it must be wind. And he said erm no she's looking at you and smiling.

When she cried he also said 'real tears' and I was well yeah she's crying. Turns out she was too young for that too.

She was 42+ 2 so that is why I suppose. It makes sense.

Quornflakegirl · 27/08/2021 18:51

Both mine at 12 weeks, they were 6 weeks early.

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 18:52

Yes so the average time probably applies to an average gestation iyswim.

They are doing it at roughly the same actual age iyswim.
