Hi,

My last post was about my little one refusing milk. It hasn't improved! He will refuse to drink more than 2 ounces of milk every 4 hours.

I have been trying to wean him on to purées and have tried the finger foods method none have worked !

I'm pulling my hair out. He still has the gag reflex and would refuse any type of food because of it.

He absolutely loves looking at food and trying it but once his tried it he just spits it out and doesn't want anymore!

I called 111 but are unconcerned have advices continue doing what we are doing and give my baby what he enjoys . Keep an eye on nappies and that's it!

If he has 2 ounces of milk I would offer some yogurt an hour later to make up his calcium.

What can I do you get rid of the gag reflex. I've tried the purées, finger foods but it's not working . I want him to eat because he has dropped his milk so much it's so worrying.

Does anyone's little hate veg?

Any advice ?

What's his weight like OP? Is he following his centiles?

Veg isn’t an ideal weaning food ime for babies who are struggling with solids, also avoid banana.
Try the fruit purée, the melty baby snacks, I’ve found the Ella’s melty sticks sweetcorn flavour the most popular. A good old fashioned rusk will get calories and iron in, very messy. Sometimes baby rice made up with formula works or ready brek. Potato waffles are an easy to eat taste and texture if you cut them into slices.
Have you tried the jars of baby food such as cow and gate spag Bol? That’s the one jar my ds with food issues has never refused, it’s also dds favourite.
I couldn’t get ds to eat any plain veg, it was very difficult to get him to eat any solids but we have got there in the end. Despite not eating single veg purée or sticks of veg when weaning he does not eat carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus and baby sweetcorn. He’s 4 and there are still some textures and tastes he can’t handle.
I continued to bf him until he was nearly 3 which meant we hand minimal hcp input as he was maintaining his weight. If your child is dropping centipede due to bottles refusing as well you need to get a dieticians appointment sooner than later

Hi,

His on 91 percentile. Not a small baby at all. The health professional are not concerned yet due to him being a big boy. But as a mother seeing your baby go from 6oz to barely 2 oz is hard. I'm constantly worried about his calorie intake.

We love breakfast it's either weetabix or rusk with milk.

We have tried all the jars and his favourite is peach lol. He loves his fruit. Strawberries especially but he loves I'll only have a taste or two and then throws it. He hates his fruit puréed .

Broccoli is his worst nightmare haha.

I've phoned the GP who says it's teething don't worry it's normal. I'm a FTM .

Just give him what he will eat, keep offering the veg etc but if there’s food he will eat give him that as well. He will start eating more again. Aim for high calorie foods, try some full dairy ice cream with some cooked apple for example

Have you tried meat, cheese and other protein?
What about eggs?
Toast, sandwiches etc

I think it is common that more food is spat out rather than swallowed in the early stages. Just keep offering little bits of whatever you are eating.
