Hello, looking for some advice, DD is a week shy of 10 months, breastfed from the beginning, started solids at 6 months, and now on three meals + snacks.
We recently tried night weaning as she was still waking every 2-3 hours every night. She’s been able to self settle most of the time at bedtime only, and then waking every 2-3 hours. the constant early hour snacking was killing me. So for the last two weeks between 12-5am DH goes to her (cot is still in our room) with cuddles and offering water.
She’d have one long feed at bedtime, a top up dream feed at midnight, and then nothing until 5-6am when she’d have a big waking feed. First week was tough but then it felt like things were working, naps and night sleep started to lengthen.
But as of two days ago it’s all downhill, and suddenly she’s adamantly refusing the breast, but will drink expressed milk from a cup. Day fussiness has gone through the roof, previously calm and content, is now constantly crying/whinging/grizzling. Went to the GP today, ears/nose/mouth all clear, no signs of infection so it’s not due to illness.
Has anyone had something similar? Did you come back from a nursing strike? Was it the attempt at night weaning? Teething?
Am feeling a bit rejected and sad at the abrupt ending! The plan was to keep breastfeeding until 1 year and then gradually taper off, but I’m also considering running with the strike as she is due to start nursery soon when I go back to work in a month. Not sure what to do!
