Breastfeeding and dummies

My little boy is 4 weeks old and exclusively breast fed, in between feeds he constantly wants the boob for comfort he'll suck and doesn't really want the milk and will spit it out. I enjoy being his comforter but I also have a 3 year old which also needs my attention! I've been thinking about offering him a dummy to see if this helps him settle without needing to be attached to me 24/7.... I've read online that babies can get nipple confusion and this scares me as we struggled in the first few weeks with his latch. Has anybody found this??? Also can anyone recommend the best dummies for BF

Thanks Smile

My baby was the same. I had an over supply and fast let down and sometimes he was overwhelmed with milk he didn’t want. My lactation consultant thinks nipple confusion with bottles and dummies are overstated and says they’re fine.

She recommended Tommee Tippee back to nature dummies. They are weird, hollow and look huge but similar nipple shape to breast. Mine preferred Mam in the end though

I struggled massively with feeding at first but once we got settled I was the same, he would just be asleep moving his mouth but not actually sucking and it drove me mad!

We introduced the dummy at about 3 weeks and he was absolutely fine, no confusion whatsoever, and it was an absolute life saver for me!

Oh and we had tommee tippee at first because it was all we had in the house (hadn't intended using), but like PP he preferred Mam in the end

Hi!
I know exactly how you feel.... I didn't plan on using dummies as my eldest never had one but I have twins (5 weeks corrected) and a 19 month toddler so I can't physically be pleasing everyone!!
We got the NUK dummies. We only use them if either baby is physically upset and no one can comfort them. They don't have them for bed and I make sure they have been fed recently and a lot so I know it's not hunger. As they have gotten older we're using them less and less - my son is EBF latches fine as well - my prefers a boob to a dummy

I EBFd till 6 months. With DC1 didn't give him a dummy till about 4 weeks. With DC2 I had them packed in the hospital bag and she has it from day 1. No effect on bf that I found.

DS had a dummy from birth, was EBF to 6 mnths then extended BF till 2yrs.
Never had any confusion with nipple and dummy.
He was very picky about having his evening/bedtime milk once he stopped BF and as he was able to choose and tell us which one he preferred. He ended up with Tommy Tippee bottle. We tried all sorts of cups to no avail.
He only had a bottle last thing at night because “it feels like you mummy” his actual words.
