When do your 3 year olds go to bed and wake up?

My dd goes to bed around 7.15/30 and is up around 6/6.30. I would love her to go to bed a bit later and wake up at 7 but this never works - she still wakes early. Just wondered what other 3 year old sleep patterns are like and if anyone managed to get their dc to 'sleep in' Grin

That sounds totally normal and not bad at all! My 3yo is generally is asleep by 7 and up anywhere between 6&7 the next morning. He always gets up at least once in the night too.

Sleeping until 6/6.30 sounds amazing! My DS who is nearly 3 is currently sleeping 7.30pm to 4.30am. I've tried cutting naps but nothing makes him sleep longer. He must just be wired to wake early. When I slept in one one occasion in the last 2 months it was until 6.30 and I felt amazing afterwards 😂

Same. Bed 7pm, awake 6.20ish, 6.40 if we’re lucky, but stays in his room until 7.

Asleep at 8.30, up at 6. Nothing we do changes that.

At the moment he's going to sleep around 10pm and up at 9-9.30am (firmly in summer holiday time zone here)! When he starts nursery in two weeks we'll move it to bed at 8pm, up at 7-7.30am - in fact we'll need to start gradually moving his timings backwards now. My kids don't have fixed sleep and wake up times, they are quite adaptable and just need a certain number of hours per night.

I recommend the Gro Clock. DS has always been an early riser no matter what time we put him to bed, but since getting him one of those he stays asleep for longer (I think because he knows I wont come running straight away) and if he does wake early he stays in his bed chatting away to himself/ playing with teddies until it turns to the yellow sun at 7am. Been an absolute game changer for us!

7:30pm - 8:30am (although she does take a while to drop off!) she also has severe disabilities which tire her out a lot so she loves her sleep bless her. Naps 1pm-2pm each day

rainham · 06/08/2021 14:01

DD is 3 yrs2m and sleeps 9.30pm-7am (we have an alarm set at 7am, she might sleep later than that if we left her). Naps for 1.5-2 hours each day. We start her bath/bed routine much earlier but she takes ages to settle into bed, keeps getting up etc.

DS 9 used to wake up at 5 whatever time I put him to bed, age 7 he was diagnosed with ADHD. Now he's on meds, a side effect is that he can't sleep. At least he sleeps in now.

9.30 lights out and up by 9

Opalfeet · 06/08/2021 14:14

We have always done it this way. My 1.5 year old has followed too. He tends to go in his cot 15 mins later when 3.5 year old is asleep (they share a room). And then wakes up around the same time

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 06/08/2021 14:14

May I recommend having 3yo twins?

Mine go to bed at 7 or 7.15.

They then wind each other up till c 8.15.

They then fall down exhausted in their beds.

...and wake around 7.30!

You might find that a drastic solution tho' Grin

Opalfeet · 06/08/2021 14:18

@Fabuleuse glad I'm not the only one, you make me feel better re times.

We do 8.30/9 in nursery days and 9/9.30 nursery days. He's not at nursery til 9 so up about 8.

Opalfeet · 06/08/2021 14:21

I was very clear from a young age that anything earlier than 8 was a night waking though so would put them back in cot until later. 🤣

Blippibloppi · 06/08/2021 14:29

Bed 7.30-8pm, wake up 6.30-7ish. Did have a horrible period of morning wakes being between 5-5.30am.

He has a nap 2-3 times a week depending on what we've been up to and how tired he is.

LapinR0se · 06/08/2021 14:33

Mine has started chatting to her sister until 9pm and then waking at 7.30am very grumpy. I wouldn't recommend it.

GingerBreadTeddy · 06/08/2021 14:37

Approx 7pm - 7am

Quornflakegirl · 06/08/2021 14:40

Mine were always big sleepers and at 3 their bedtime was 7pm and they sleep until around 7:30-8 unless it was a pre school day.
On pre school days they’d sleep 6:30 to 7 when I woke them. They’re 8 now and were both in bed until 9:30 this morning.

My 3 year old DD goes to bed at 7 pm and wakes up between 6.30 and 7 am

Pantheon · 06/08/2021 15:08

Thanks everyone. Seems it's actually pretty good/normal. DD used to wake crazy early when younger so I feel for you all going through that!

Asleep by 8pm. Wake up time varies but usually 6:30ish. Can range from 5:30 to just after 7 though!
