Can anyone help. My baby is 4 weeks old and constantly grunts / cries / irritable/ it’s been on going since around a week. Can’t sleep always waking up in discomfort. He was put on nutramigin 10 days ago but with little effect. Feel so bad for him. Always crying when awake and has all the signs of GERD. Any advice? Used gaviscon etc no help!

Maybe ask for an alternative to gaviscon

OP - you have all my sympathy Sad I suffer from GERDS and it’s awful, never mind for a wee baby.

My family like to remind me how much I cried as a new born, until an aunty found “the position”. I’d be held on an arm, chin resting on the palm of the hand or between thumb & finger, arm bent at 45 degrees-ish. I think a baby carrier helps as well?

I know sleeping at an angle helps a lot, but you’re better seeking medical advise before doing that for a baby.

Good luck!

Oh OP our baby had GERDs and exactly as @Mangomammy suggests was the best way to hold her when unsettled. We also found a wrap sling very good as then she was upright at all times. I managed to feed her that way too eventually.
