Not sure where to go with sleep

I’m at a bit of a loss with my 9 month old’s sleep. He’s always been a crap sleeper but after a recent illness we’re having more wake ups than ever despite him being completely well again (back up hourly in the night). The problem is his inability to self soothe and I don’t know how to make it happen. When he was about 6 months we tried the controlled crying method (please no judgement). It started to work but he was less mobile then n used to just grizzle into the mattress before falling asleep. This was spoilt by illness again however! Anyway I can honestly say I’ve tried everything else, he’s got the entire environment geared to encouraging sleep and I’m trying all sorts. My problem is now if I did controlled crying again, he’s very mobile. I had to take an urgent call the other day whilst in the midst of getting him to sleep in his cot and he literally walked round the edge of the cot crying. Where do I go? How can I teach him to self soothe or do I just ride it out??

I would ride it out for now doing whatever works to get him to go to sleep.

There is a huge sleep regression at 9 months and he may very well just settle again.

There are some things you can do though, have a read of 31 Ways to get your baby to sleep.

If you want to try a book, the No Cry Sleep Solution has some good suggestions to try as well.

We stand and hold his hand at the side of the cot and have been reducing this contact as much as we can, so hand on shoulder instead (he lies on his side) and then I’ve been trying to introduce a comforter to clutch on to rather than me. His cot is scattered with glow in the dark dummies but he’s still waking up and holding on to the sides crying until we come to hi
