Talk me out of being broody for dc3

I thought I was done. Totally and completely done. I can think of all the reasons NOT to have a third. Financial (we can afford it but will need bigger car, bigger house), energy (I already feel tired from the 2 I have), the teenage years won't be fun...

Up until a month ago, I was definitely not having more. 100%. Two is plenty. Two is enough. They're 5 and 2.5 now. They get on well and I have a girl and a boy. We are comfortable and happy. The younger one has just started sleeping through (but still not consistently).

So why? Why is my heart saying have another?!

Please talk me out of it. My head says no, but my heart says yes.

I need help.

I mean it feels like a highlight cos they didnt climb over everything, stick their fingers up my nose and steal my food 🤣🤣 and I could technically be alone. Told DS I was going for coffee. He asked if i was taking the he babies because that's what alone means.

Because having a third is :

making one the odd one out
Everything in the supermarket is geared for two or four but not five
Everything is more expensive, family days out, tickets generally aimed at two adults, two children. Holidays - you need a 6 berth room, chalet or whatever

I'm a mum of two, always wanted three, met my now DH and he has three so we went everywhere as a family of 7. Loved every minute!

Only you know you and your family and circumstances. If you can afford to, are in good health and think you might always regret it, go for it! X

My advice is, if you do decide to go for it and I m another for go for it, then maybe have a permanent plan underway for contraception afterwards maybe DH could get the snip? as the feeling can just keep happening and the only way to silence it is to keep having more babies til your old and tired and spend most of your days in front of the washing machine wondering if you should have stayed on at college Grin

I have had no.3 and my body is broke. I feel so tired and my child sleeps. She's my girl after two boys and I simply adore her and she makes my world so happy but I have found it a novelty having a girl after two boys, even though I delight more in seeing her wear her brother's
clothes as I'm so sentimental about them. My husband was dead against a 3rd, I was open to it and she came as a surprise. I now can set that idea of more children free and never waste thoughts on it; however, I often harp back to when we having one child was pure bliss and perfect!

Hirewiredays · 06/08/2021 10:53

I should say that there's 2.5 and and 2.4 between our kids so we've never left the baby stage. I think going back after a big wait would be too much. My hat off to those who do!

I would agree with @stairgates . My husband had the snip soon after and it's stopped any more thought of more kids and I really feel closure now and it makes me happy.

Chanel05 · 06/09/2023 18:40

@Octopuscrazy did you go for a third in the end?

@Octopuscrazy did you go for a third in the end?

No. Not yet...
And actually, now you've tagged me, I've realised its now been 2y since the original post and I still feel the same. I don't know if it's the right decision. Maybe, maybe not.

Chanel05 · 07/09/2023 09:22

@Howtonamechange oh really! How does your partner feel about a third?

ecossegirl91 · 07/09/2023 09:55

I had 3 hours of non consecutive sleep with a screaming 11 month old last night.

that’s enough for me to consider stopping at 1 😂
