Please dont make me feel guilty but does anyone else fucking hate playing? My 4yo likes building stuff just to knock it over so playing with him consists of putting stuff back together you only just built! My parents make me feel awful for not liking playing (although I remember a lot of my childhood watching tv not being played with!) but at 8 months pregnant too urgh!

My little boy is 3.9 and I absolutely hate playing. Can’t do it. I tend to play to my strengths and do things I do like doing, such as going to the park, colouring, baking, reading. Etc. Like you I don’t ever remember my parents playing with me as a child, literally not once!

Everyone hates at least one aspect of playing with small children.

Just play to your strengths/do the things you do like doing with him and the things you don't like can be saved for independent play/playdates or at least limited periods of time.

I hate some type of play but quite like others. You don’t have to do it all, so long as you do some of it. Best not to force doing something you don’t like as the kids will pick up on the fact you’re not liking it anyway.

If there is something my kids really really want me to do with them that I don’t much like I usually set a timer and do it for 15-20 minutes only. I feel better knowing it’s only a set time and the kids accept the time ending easier when there’s a timer they can see.

Personally I love a bit of Lego, crafts etc but the dolls and baking. Very little baking together happens in our house but I’ve just accepted I hate it and it’s not a nice activity for us all because I can’t fake enjoying it.

I’ve got two young toddlers and i feel like I’d rather do anything than play! Feel really guilty though , I’ve started to enjoy it abit more as my daughter gets older, but I still would rather do cooking or tidying up.
I also never got played with as a kid and never expected it. I do think it’s good to though as kids love it and it’s what they’ll remember

I know how you feel! My ds4 asks me to play but then proceeds to tell me everything I'm doing is wrong! I like to play games where he's running around and I just need to sit there. (Eg sitting in a restaurant while he pretends to be the waiter!)

Doctors is a good one as long as you get to be the patient.
