nightmare - been there and done that, so possibly not much advice, just light at the end of the tunnel - our ds was like this until about 15 weeks and is now the happiest baby ever - just doesn't stop smiling and giggling all day, so please reassure them that their baby (or them) won't be permanently miserable.

Things that helped from time to time:
lying him on his front over my knees,
singing - try and find 1 song they seem to respond to, and keep singing it... (this still calms him down at night if needs be),
change in temperature - stripping them or taking them outside - I walked up and down our pavement many times at tea time which calmed him down.

Usual drops and things didn't really help us, but they could ask the GP - good luck...!

Have you also tried Cranial Osteopathy?? Can often help when all other things have failed!

again, been there, poor you
there was a thread recently with tips - try searching on 'swaddling'.
our dd1 got better at 12 wks - swap carer as often as poss (& get out of house!) to give yourselves a break...
good luck
