Bodysuit sizing from different shops- opinions please!

Hello! I have a 3 week old who is currently between up to 1 month and 0-3 month bodysuits. I've noticed that shops vary in length and width! Next seem to come up bigger, whereas Tesco seem smaller. I'd rather get slightly smaller ones for 0-3 whilst he's in between sizes. I'm after some zipped bodysuits (easier at night!) And I know Tesco don't do them. What shops are on the average/smaller side usually from your experience?

Thanks!

I find supermarket clothes are definitely a bit smaller and do shrink a little. It isn't generally an issue as babies grow so quickly so they aren't in them long.

However, I find with items like vests and babygrows it's worth spending a little more on next/M&S/John Lewis as they are worn more than normal clothes and are washed more. They are definitely bigger and less prone to shrinking!

I've seen zip up baby grows in M&S.

All supermarkets & boots mini mode range tend to be on the smaller side. I can't say I've seen many zip up sleepsuits lately.
I love next stuff as the sizing is so generous and they last really well too, they are on the pricey side though.

I got zip-up babygrows from M&S. Sizing was pretty average I’d say 😊

For bodysuits:

  • Asda are short. 9m old DS has just gone into 9-12m clothes. Sainsbury’s ones have loads of room and Asda are already snug!!
  • TU at Sainsbury’s are average/large and wash great!
  • Next are average/large
  • M&S are pretty average

Although - I can pretty much guarantee that baby will have a big growth spurt within the next couple of weeks so I wouldn’t go mad on buying stuff!! Your normal/big sized 0-3 will probably fit pretty soon!

I find Jojo enormous!! My 2 year 4 month old is in 12-18 clothes still! (She’s 25th centile so small but not ridiculously so)

Primark come up small, more so then Tesco I’d say.

H&M sizing is weird in that it doesn’t follow the 0-3, 3-6 pattern, and I think they had zip up body suits a year or so ago at least.

Thanks everyone! I'll look at m&s for now and I'll also look at Asda too as that's good to know they come up a bit smaller. Next is such good quality so I might get a couple from there anyway as he'll grow in to them eventually! He seems to be growing by the day!!

Asda clothes are definitely small.

I seem to recall next and boots being big. O had two tall babies, and tended to avoid the supermarkets because they outgrew them so quickly.

FTEngineerM · 01/08/2021 19:01

Go by the (weight) lb on the tag not the months.

Asda/Tu/next/F&F all have a different weight rating for their age rating.

So in my cupboard now I arrange clothes by the weight so we have 5lb, 7lb, 9lb, 10lb, 12lb, 14lb and that encompass newborn to 0-3 from the shops I mentioned above.

Fucking minefield.

Paris2019 · 01/08/2021 19:26

Asda deffo the smallest in our experience

Superscientist · 02/08/2021 09:49

The weights for the Asda clothes are 0.5 kg less than other brands.
We find Sainsbury's and m and s last longer for us. My lo doesn't seem to outgrow clothes! She is 1 in a week and is in a mix of 3-6 and 6-9 month clothes! She had some 0-3 months dungarees from m and s long after she passed the weight and height guide!

I don't worry too much about her being in clothes that are too big or small. We have summer clothes that people have bought her in 9-12 months so she is going to be wearing them in the summer otherwise they might not get worn. At the same time we have 3-6 month dresses that fit in the body but are too short to wear as dresses so they are now used as tops. I really hate sleep suits as they get unusable quicker than other clothes as they can get too short in the legs or the body even if they are ok in the body or legs! I have a reflux baby and they take too long to put on especially after she got mobile and a meltdown quickly ensues as she lying down causes her discomfort

Fleetw00d · 03/08/2021 19:24

Can't help specifically for zipped but in general I found the following:
Next and jojo quite big
Primark and tesco really small
Sainsburys ok
Gap bang on

H&M do slightly different sizes (2-4 etc) and do have zipped!

HungryHippo20 · 04/08/2021 20:31

Primark have zip suits that are fab! I also saw them in Asda the other day too 😄my favourite are the bonds wonder suits you can get online or in next I think.
