my friend who has a 2 year old has invited me to go to the aquarium with her in a few weeks.

my little boy is 4 weeks old, and will be around 6 weeks at the time.

my question is, when can babies see shapes and colours enough to enjoy this as a sensory experience? id rather go all that way when he can enjoy it too.

At that age it's more about if you want to go and socialise than the baby

I wouldn't waste your money now.

He won’t get much from it at 6 weeks - but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go if you’d enjoy the company / a day out!

Even if he was awake I’m not sure he’d ‘enjoy’ it per say. Nothing against your baby - I’m just not sure a 6 week old is capable of such a complex emotion beyond the enjoyment they get from a full tummy and a good kip. Go if you want to socialise with your friend x

Guaranteed to sleep all the way through. I love an aquarium so I'd still go!

Id put him in a sling and just go for a catch up with your friend. Your little one isnt likely to get much from it. At that age they can make out highly contrasted static shapes (so think black and white pictures).
