HV and centiles

Had LO measured today (6month check). He's been weighed every few weeks up until now due to health problems since birth that made him loose weight drastically.
Anyway, today he had gone up to the 25th centile in weight (absolutely thrilled to bits with this).

But there was some confusion over his length. HV doing checks measured him at 65cm (he was 66cm at 4months). So basically he's shrunk...
She did it again, same thing.
Got someone else to quickly check and they got 72cm. (MASSIVE DIFFERENCE).
I've got home I also got 72cm.

How accurate are measurements?

The only reason I ask is that his head circumference was on the 99th centile, and they are referring him to be seen about this as they've marked him as 65cm length. I don't want him being poked and prodded anymore, he's already been through a lot.

I did try to say that if he is longer then it wouldn't matter would it? His length and head are proportioned. But they haven't really listened and referred anyway.

I'm not sure where to go from here... has anybody else been in this situation?
Any help is appreciated TIA!

It's hard to accurately measure length as opposed to height when they are lying down

If hes 72 cm long, what percentile does that put him on?

Alwayswondering225 · 26/07/2021 16:21

@SleepingStandingUp

98th I think

Are you still getting support for his eating / weight?

Id say take the appt, but they'll just measure him and discharge him i expect. That way of anything comes up in the future you can confirm ypuce always gone to his appts

Length is hard to measure until they can stand up.

This is exactly why the HV in my area don't bother measuring length. Far too easy to get an inaccurate measurement.

Agree with PP. Just have the appointment. They'll check him over, ask a few questions about him, etc. If no further investigation is then warranted, they'll just discharge him.
