Toddler keeps pooing in night nappy

2year 9 month dc has recently started intentionally pooing in his nighttime nappy as a way of trying to drag out bed time and I’m not sure how to deal with it.
He has been solidly daytime potty trained since Feb this year and the pooing in his night nappy has only started in the last month.

He’s become increasingly hard to put to bed and this seems to be a highly effective new tactic. Obviously we can’t not clean him up but I don’t really know how to go about discouraging this but it’s becoming almost nightly he’s managing to squeeze something out and when he doesn’t you can hear him trying to do it and straining. 🤦‍♀️

Any ideas?

Have you tried high value rewards for no poo in the nappy?

Or just get rid of the night nappy?

He isn't pooing to prolong his bedtime. It's an unfortunate coincidence here.

His most comfortable place to poo is still his nappy, so if he is a bit anxious, out the house or busy during the day or constipated he will save it for when the nappy goes on. Did he change his routine or diet a month ago? Could he be anxious about something? I would try to give him stool softening foods and find a way to make using the potty before the nappy goes on more relaxing. Does he have a potty in his bedroom?

He poos perfectly happily during the day on the potty. I don’t think he is withholding in order to poo at night because usually he has done a poo earlier in the day.

Often the poo in the nappy is tiny or more of a shart type thing.

During the day he is really good at saying when he needs to go
