Any idea?! 8 mo rash/spots

My nearly 8 month old has a spreading rash/spots on his body. They started as small red pinpricks, not raised, with a white ring around them. They have slowly turning to bumps and seem to be spreading from his arm (especially underarm) to his other arm, back and even one on his face.

I can't seems to find anything similar online so any advice or idea of what it might be would be really helpful! Sent a picture to my GP (we're away) who said 'put moisturiser on it' Hmm)

Rashes in kids can be all sorts of things: chickenpox, HFM, just a viral rash. It's hard to say really. DD got a few viral rashes as a baby that just came and went. You'll probably just have to wait and see if they turn into anything or just go away.

Thanks @Starjammer I'm wondering if they might be molloscum contagiosum, which wouldn't be dangerous just a bloomin pain! Will take your advice and see what happens in the next few days, they just seem to be spreading every day...

Insect bites? I'm covered in mosquito bites this week even though I live in London. Or if he's been playing on grass it could be a slight irritation to that.

Molluscum doesn't tend to spread as fast I don't think.

Could it be chicken pox?

My 11-month-old has also developed these spots which seem to be slowly spreading. He seems fine in himself, apart from having a runny nose. It’s puzzling. He has been crawling in grass recently.

Lmama · 25/07/2021 14:28

@Sheerdetermination strange isn't it? @Fleetw00d I wondered if it could be chicken pox but the spread is slow, & no other symptoms ie. high temp. @GrandmasterGlitchsMoustache it could be insects - is it wrong that I'm weirdly praying so, because several people have suggested molloscum now and I know that is a nightmare Confused

I have concluded our spots were insect bites.

Dadsnet1yr · 31/07/2021 09:16

Our 1y/o boy has the same thing. It’s been on/off for the last couple weeks. I’d be curious to see if they’ve done any similar activities, etc. Perhaps we can connect over the phone. He too had sniffles for a week but now only a rash.

Flitter123 · 31/07/2021 21:20

Mollescum is quite distinctive - look it up. They usually have a little dimple in.

Fuscialuscia · 31/07/2021 22:02

Our child has the same thing! Interested to hear what this is.

BikeRunSki · 31/07/2021 22:08

Molloscum spots are raised, almost like beads of water sitting on the skin, and they tend to be clustered together. The spots in the photo don’t look like molluscum. If he’s been crawling in grass, then insect bites is pretty likely.

Thanks all - had an online appt w a dermatologist who diagnosed molloscum! I didn’t think they looked quite as showed in google pics but apparently it can be how they appear at first. Bought Molludab and Zyaderm so will give both a go. Fingers crossed. They don’t seem to bother him at all which is a big plus.
