Help - How do I clean a potty?!?

Proud Mummy moment - DS, 2.6, just asked to do a poo in the potty, sat on the potty, and produced a beautiful poo . The first time ever!!!

So - sorry if this is a daft question - how are you supposed to clean the potty out afterwards? This time I just tipped it down the loo (waving "bye bye poo"!) and wiped the potty with loo roll. But this doesn't seem super hygienic and used loads of loo roll... What's the best way?

Yup - tip, spray with antibac, wipe. Or, if you're being super-efficient, put a bit of toilet roll in there before he does a poo, then it's easier to tip out and clean.

(oh, and well done your DS)

Despite being as environmentally friendly as I can be normally. I'm afraid that after a poo the potty is washed out with washing up liquid and bleach.

After wees it only get a quick rinse though.

you could use the toilet seat wipes i get the parazone anti bac ones

I would hold the potty in the water stream of the flush to wash out and get rid of the worst, then spray with disinfectant / antibacterial spray and wipe out with loo roll.

I normally tip it away, wipe it with loo roll, spray it with Bugs Away and then wipe it out again with loo roll

KashaSarrasin · 26/11/2007 22:33

Great - thanks! Looks like I'll have to invest in some antibac spray then, I'll try washing with bleach in the meantime and see how that goes. The tip about putting loo roll in first though sounds good - I'll try and remember that next time, no idea how I'll have to wait for that though!

Put some toilet paper in the bottom before she does the business - helps the contents to slide out when you come to clean.

Rinse with water and tip down the toilet.

Wipe out with toilet paper and rinse again.

Spray with Dettol spray or similar.

I use to swill the potty with a small amount of water and tip down the toilet, then wipe dry with toilet roll or a washable wipe (whatever is to hand)

jamila169 · 26/11/2007 23:30

me too babieseverywhere -I usually leave the inside of the potty damp so poos don't stick anyway (unless they're real works of art of course )

When dd wants to do a poo I hold her over the normal toilet as hate wiping out her potty. Then if I need to, all I do is clean with normal toilet brush at arm's length!
