1yo refusing naps?

Hi, my 12 month old has just started really fighting his naps, particularly the second one of the day. He is screaming and crying in a lot of distress, almost as if he's in immense pain and it's horrible. It's a sort of scream I've not heard from him before and he's just started doing it the last week or so. He does eventually fall asleep.

I tried moving him to one nap but it didn't work as he was so exhausted.

At the moment he wakes around 6.30, naps around 9.30 and again at around 2. Bedtime is 7.30.

What should I do?

It normally takes 2 weeks to adapt to a new nap pattern and they may need an earlier bedtime.

Another vote for keeping him super busy in the morning and going for one nap.

I tried to aim for the nap after lunch so that it freed up the morning for activities or groups.

This happened to me when my LO turned 12 months. I had no routine anymore and it made me crazy! He would just cry and cry. I was told to drop to one nap but in 2 weeks time he went back to napping twice a day so just a phase I guess! He is 14 months now and still naps twice a day, he needs it.

Hi @anotherflower my DD has just gone through this, was a few weeks worth of fighting naps and my LO was fighting them both. It is just a phase and she is now back to 2 naps. Keep it consistent and persevere for example have the comforts he has at bedtime for his nap times. It will get better.

Like @Mio1994 my DD done the same around 12 months.. she’s 14 months and happily napping twice a day still. I think there’s a sleep regression at 12 months so could be that.
