Pokémon Pokémon Pokémon…..

Is all my DS(7) wants to talk about! I am very keen to show an interest and I try and listen when he talks about all the Pokémon and their evolutions and shows me all the pictures he draws of them but it’s hard as it’s literally all he talks about. It’s relentless. He used to have such wide interests - space and sea creatures, he’d read fact books and play lots of different stuff on his Switch - and it’s all been ditched in favour of Pokémon.

He’s a gorgeous sweet boy and very happy at home/school but it is draining! Does it pass? Lighthearted post (mostly) but my goodness me if I have to stop what I’m doing to listen to what the evolution of a creature is I’m going to scream Grin

My son had a phase of about 6 weeks of being pokemon crazy. We got him a good book so he could read about them and we also got him drawing them, which got him into drawing and colouring - bonus!!

It lasted as long as the game did - he basically got to a point where it got too tricky and stopped playing it. Now he dips in and out. His thing now is Harry Potter!

I actually know/like Harry Potter but alas it's just as draining to listen and talk about it all the time!!!!

My daughter is 21 and a pokemon master

Get Pokémon go and make it a joint interest! I have 4 kids that are over almost the Pokémon phase thanks but we had great fun playing Pokémon go and competing over who caught what. We went out for the day to Blackpool once and my nephew couldn't join us due to illness so I offered to take his phone and pokehunt for him. Had both phones (his and mine) on my knee and I managed to catch him a snorlax and the bugger didn't spawn for me! I was gutted but he was delighted and it made his tummy bug more tolerable.

My eldest son is 22 and still collects Pokémon memorabilia. Clothing. Plushes.... he loves it!

I'm a pokemon master

Pokémon Go - that’s a great idea, I’ve been meaning to get that and it’ll be good to get out for a walk! I played the Switch game Pokémon Sword with him and enjoyed it so I do understand it a bit better now.

His 4 year old sister is funny - she tolerates his constant chatter well but the other day I heard her say dramatically ‘Oh (DS name) please, I can’t listen to any more Pokémon!’

I'm 32 and still loves pokemon. it may be nice to download pokemon go on your phone and go to a park and pokemon hunt. gets some exercise too. My 7yo nephew is also in love with it atm and my sis keeps begging me to come and help

WiltingSpinach · 21/07/2021 14:23

Lots of people grow out of the phase but ds is 15 and no sign yet Grin
He doesn't watch the anime but collects and plays the switch/ds game and the trading card game.
I second downloading Pokémon Go it can be surprisingly fun

I've got 4 of them who love it. The 10 year old is always yabbering at me about it too. Lucky for them I used to watch pokemon as a teen so don't mind it but yes it can get a bit much. I often just tune out lol

imamearcat · 21/07/2021 14:27

My 4 year old is just getting into it.. sounds like it might not be a short phase!

Nuggetnugget · 21/07/2021 14:28

Ah the wonderful world of pokemon 😂

Jacketspudd · 21/07/2021 14:46

I guess when I think back, DS has usually been a ‘one interest at a time’ kinda kid. It was Thomas the Tank from about ages 2-4, then Octonauts took over - then he was interested in sea creatures more generally, then space (but he still enjoyed sea creatures then and would read fact books about lots of things - he doesn’t really like stories, he’s all about non-fiction).

Then one day about 6 weeks ago he came back from school chattering non-stop about Pokémon - and it’s never stopped! I got him the Pokémon encyclopaedia so he could join in with any conversations at school - a lot of the kids in his class like it too - but little did I know it would be all he wanted to read Grin
