DD will be turning 2 soon and looking for some good book recommendations. What books are your toddler's favourites. (Already got most of the Julia Donaldson's!)

Tom Fletches has a range of "theres an.... in my book" - alien, dragon, monster etc where the kids have to do stuff - blow, shake the book etc to get them out.

Also Mike Brownslow 10 Little... Elves, Pirates, monsters, princesses etc were hugely popular

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 19/07/2021 17:18

What about Dinosaur Roar (theres a load in the series - Dinosaur Whack, Dinosaur Snap) books?

SleepingStandingUp · 19/07/2021 17:26

Ooh also those Never Touch A.... are lovely sensory books and of course the That's Not My...

Anything with flaps to open.

SBAM · 19/07/2021 19:50

Dear Zoo and noisy farm are popular here with my toddler, plus the spot books as they all have flaps.

In terms of things i like reading (&don’t mind repeat readings):

  • Chris haughton books particularly oh no George and goodnight everyone which makes me yawn too
  • giraffes can’t dance & rumble in the jungle by Giles andreae,
  • hairy maclairy, and hairy maclairy and Zachary quack by Linley Dodd
  • dig dig digging by M Mayo
  • Elmer and not now Bernard by David McKee
  • if they like hey duggee or Sarah and duck the books are good
  • one mole digging a hole, chocolate mousse for greedy goose by nick sharratt. Also shark in the park.
  • we have the ‘busy bees’ edition of the three little pigs which has squishy pig and wolf faces and is told quite succinctly which I appreciate

Mog (all of them, but I still can't cope with Goodbye Mog for obvious reasons)

Hairy Maclary

Once There Were Giants

Oi Frog/Dog/Cat/etc

My DS is 3 and really into books at the moment. His older sister is a huge reader so we have hundreds of books, and he sometimes goes for something a bit "older", but still enjoyable for him. Things like Richard Scarry and the You Choose books.

At that age DD adored simple search and find books, too. She liked doing the searching but also talking about what else we could see in the picture, counting things, etc.

The Works always have 3 for £5 or similar on picture books, I sometimes go in there and just see what looks appealing at the time!

SylvanasWindrunner · 23/10/2021 21:21

DD loves the Shark in the Park books.

iusedtoloveopalfruits1 · 23/10/2021 21:46

My DS loves the wonky donkey books, Katy
Morag is good too. Peace at last is his absolute favourite tho. It’s got a lot of repetitive phrases which he had picked up really quickly.
