What is your toddler sleeping in tonight? It's so warm 30 degrees in her room

It's currently 30 degrees in her bedroom.
Window is open, curtains are shut. Her bedroom door is open. All other windows upstairs are open. I have a fan on and a block of ice in front of it. It just won't cool down in there. I'll be dressing her in just a nappy. She is two and a half. She is a hot baby too.

What temp is your LO bedroom? And what are they sleeping in?

28, and she's just in a nappy.

Thesearmsofmine · 17/07/2021 18:36

All my children sleep in just pants when it is warm. They have a sheet on their bed to pop over themselves if they want.
With the room being that warm I would maybe try and keep her up a little later until it cools or get her to sleep in another room if possible?

sunshineandshowers21 · 17/07/2021 18:42

not sure about how hot the bedroom is, but my almost three year old will just wear some pants, and my fourteen month old just a nappy. no covers and a fan on each of them. i’ll also put them to bed later (around 9/10) so that it’ll hopefully have started to cool down a little by then.

No idea what the temperature is but she's in a nappy and no covers. I've had the bedroom curtains closed all day and the windows open so it's not as hot as the rest of the house

Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx · 17/07/2021 18:47

Nappy and 1 Tog sleeping bag, fan is on, box room but sun goes off it in the PM so it’s not as warm as it was this am. No idea on the temp, don’t have a monitor for that

Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx · 17/07/2021 18:49

@missturnbullx is the sun on the room still? If it’s is you need to shut the window and keep curtains closed, it won’t cool down otherwise. Essentially you are just letting hot air in otherwise

GalaxyGirl24 · 17/07/2021 18:50

Thin eczema sleepsuit (very thin, like muslin thin) with a nappy on, thin tog sleeping bag.
Fan on, windows open and curtains have been closed all eve.

I would LOVE to have her in just a nappy but she won't sleep without sleeping bad as she will spend all eve itching bless her

missturnbullx · 17/07/2021 18:50

@Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx yeah the sun is out still facing on to her room. The curtains have been shut all day. Managed to get the temp down a little to 28-29. The window is open. Never considered closing it for the hot air getting in? Will give a try

The sun hits our sons room so we have closed window. Shorts and t shirt with one tog sleeping bag, my son doesn't like to sleep in just a nappy annoyingly. We have a Dyson cooling tower and room is 28 degrees.

RubyGoat · 17/07/2021 18:51

DD isn’t a toddler any more, but there was a heatwave when she was a few months old. She’s always been a hot person too. She slept in just a nappy for several weeks. In her crib next to us. Fan on, all windows open to front & back of the house.

hennybeans · 17/07/2021 18:52

I grew up in a hot place so this advice seems common sense to me, but my British DH really struggles with it and I think other Brits do as well: when it's hotter outside than inside, don't open the windows because you only let the heat in.
When I wake up early in the morning and it's cooler outside, I open all my windows to let the cool air in. But around 9 am, I close them all and close the curtains in the South facing windows. This keeps my house relatively cool in the day. I open my windows again about 9 or 10 pm and leave the upper windows open all night.
No good to you tonight, but might help the next few days.

Also, a damp small sheet covering your dd whilst she sleeps will help to cool her if she'll keep it over her. Especially with a fan blowing.

Caspianberg · 17/07/2021 18:54

Yea close all windows daytime in bedroom when it’s hot. It’s hot all summer where I live and we open windows first thing, close by 9am, then leave closed in bedroom. It’s usually 30-35 outside and can keep around 23 indoors

Dollpiglet · 17/07/2021 18:55

I've always found mind get horrendous heat rash if they don't wear a cotton vest. So mine is in that and scratch sleeves because of eczema. His room doesn't feel that hot though and I've got air going through it

EcoCustard · 17/07/2021 18:56

Ds is 2.5 no idea of room temperature as I don’t monitor it. Will sleep with his short pyjamas on, no pants, summer duvet folded back and window open on the safety catches. Currently in the pool, late bedtime tonight.

MattyGroves · 17/07/2021 18:57

A short sleeved short romper. He would take his nappy off and wee everywhere if I put him down in just a nappy Grin

Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx · 17/07/2021 19:09

As @hennybeans said really! My family all live abroad and do the same…. When sun is off the room windows open curtains open, sun comes out window closed curtains closed… it’s honestly helps so much. My sis and parents both live abroad and swear by it! It works x

peaches35 · 17/07/2021 19:27

I can’t put DS in just a nappy as he will pull it off. So he’s in a nappy and vest but it’s still 28C in his room. When he woke from his nap earlier his head was all sweaty Sad

MyMabel · 17/07/2021 19:29

@Zarene

28, and she's just in a nappy.

I thought you meant age Grin

BertieBotts · 17/07/2021 19:41

It will be too late to close the window now, you might as well leave it open as it will be just as hot inside as outside.

Leave it open overnight, close it at about 10/11am - when the temperature starts to creep up outside. That should prevent it getting too hot tomorrow night. Close all doors in the house as well and see which rooms stay cooler - keep those closed at all costs!

Don't leave the fan on in the room unless it's actually circulating air at somebody. It won't cool the air and the motor will eventually get warm and just be putting more heat into the room.

RobinPenguins · 17/07/2021 19:45

My 3 year old is in shortie pyjamas. It’s fucking boiling in her room, but I don’t have a thermometer in there to be more specific. She went off to sleep fairly quickly (under the duvet, little weirdo, which I moved off her once she was asleep) and has a water bottle for if she wakes up thirsty.

wavecatcher · 17/07/2021 19:46

Just a nappy, thin blanket and fan on

Hadenough21 · 17/07/2021 19:55

Opening your loft hatch helps when it’s hot upstairs!

Mizydoscape · 17/07/2021 20:03

24 degrees in DD (2 almost) room this evening so she's in a short sleeve bodysuit and 1 tog sleeping bag

AliceW89 · 17/07/2021 20:18

Nappy and a 0.5 tog bag. The bag is to stop him trying to exit the cot, not for warmth! X

Pissinthepottyplease · 17/07/2021 20:24

26c and just a nappy and a sheet. She normally sleeps in just a nappy and a 4 tog duvet.
