What is your toddler sleeping in tonight? It's so warm 30 degrees in her room

It's currently 30 degrees in her bedroom.
Window is open, curtains are shut. Her bedroom door is open. All other windows upstairs are open. I have a fan on and a block of ice in front of it. It just won't cool down in there. I'll be dressing her in just a nappy. She is two and a half. She is a hot baby too.

What temp is your LO bedroom? And what are they sleeping in?

26 here and I've just taken the duvet off 3yo DS. I sleep with a duvet all year round so it's probably not to be surprised. Baby DS is in a vest as his nappy moves otherwise, I'll pop him in a sleeping bag when I go to bed.

worrybutterfly · 17/07/2021 20:46

25c and in short pj's and a 0.2tog sleeping bag.

I've had the curtains, windows and door closed since 9am which has helped.

I have put down puppy pads on our bed and DS is naked. The nappies are making his ezecma worse in this heat.

It’s 31 in our room

NigellaSeed · 17/07/2021 21:21

Egg says it's 24.8. Windows open, blinds down, fan off. Took ds out of sleep bag so he was just in short sleeve vest but I think combination of no bag and so much light has sent him beserk. Put him back in bag and he's only now finally falling asleep in my arms.

DeadButDelicious · 17/07/2021 21:21

Not sure on temperature (it's 23 outside currently) but DD (4) is just in her knickers. She has a blanket to pull over her if she needs it. Far too hot for PJ's.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 17/07/2021 21:29

I’m sure there’s a theory that wearing one thin layer actually keeps you cooler than being naked? Anyway we’ve got DD 3 months in a short sleeved vest, currently no sleeping bag but she only has 1 tog anyway so will see what our room feels like later. DD 6 is in shortie pyjamas and has a thin bedspread on which I will prise off her when i go to bed later, but the sun goes off her room in the afternoon so it stays fairly cool. Her window is open on the snick.

MadameOvary81 · 17/07/2021 21:36

2.5 year old DS is in just his nappy, but he's insisted on having his duvet. Last time i looked at him on the camera, he's got it wrapped around him like a sauna-suit. He might be a lb or 2 lighter in the morning... Grin

JurassicShay · 17/07/2021 21:36

No idea of the temp but Dd is 13 months and in a sleeveless vest. Window is open and the fan on.

boydy99 · 17/07/2021 21:37

nappy and a short vest. we do the same as PP, windows open first thing until the sun moves round and then windows and blinds shut until around 7pm. when we have the windows open, we have a powerful fan on the windowsill and the back door open (backdoor is upstairs!) so the air gets pulled through the house. it's done quite a good job this evening and the room is not too hot. he is just going off to sleep now and I've left the blind half up with the window open and fan on to keep cooling it

linerforlife · 17/07/2021 21:44

I follow the advice about keeping curtains windows in the day etc, and I also point a fan at the external wall in my DDs room from about a metre away. This forces the warm air against the cooler brick wall and cools the room. Works really well. I started doing it when she was born in a heatwave filled summer! Because when they're newborn you're not supposed to point a fan directly at them.

BeHappyAndSmile · 17/07/2021 21:45

@Hadenough21

Opening your loft hatch helps when it’s hot upstairs!
This is bloody genius! Can't believe I've never thought of it before!

My 9 month old is in a short sleeve vest and the room is 26, going to open the window now the neighbour has stopped mowing their lawn Blush and hope that it's cools a bit because they're a hot child and normally would be in just a nappy at that temp in the day.
Another helpful hint I've heard was to put tin foil on the window to reflect the sun and keep it dark, we've struggled with the light waking baby up early with the window open but that apparently helps because it keeps the room cooler in the day too.

orangejuicer · 17/07/2021 21:48

26-26.5c with us tonight. DS is in long pjs and nothing else. Got a sheet to put on him later if needed.

Alarae · 17/07/2021 21:52

DD (16 months) is in a nappy and a 0.2 tog sleeping bag.

I'm guessing her room is around 26C at the moment. Unfortunately her room gets hit with the evening sun so gets superheated as her window faces it directly. We put up black anti UV/heat film on the glass which kind of helps.

johnd2 · 17/07/2021 21:58

25c and thin two piece pyjamas.
I agree all the above, we have all safe Windows open a crack overnight, we close them as soon as it gets warmer outside than in, and vice versa.
The best thing i did though was last year when he was 6 months old, i cut up the super thick corrugated cardboard box that his cot came in, and made rectangles that exactly fit over each pane of glass and wedge in place.
When the sun is on, you can literally feel the heat from them, but not as much as with it coming right through. We just leave them all day until the sun goes round and we open the windows.
We did think about tin foil and maybe even some old duvets on the back, but you have to give in somewhere!
Good luck, tomorrow's even hotter at least in London still .

missturnbullx · 17/07/2021 22:03

@SaveWaterDrinkGin I think I've heard that theory somewhere too but not sure if it's true or not? Would be interesting to

DD (14 months) is in a short sleeved vest and 0.5 tog sleeping bag (mainly to stop her attempting to climb out!).. not sure on temp but windows open and fan on.

SpacePug · 17/07/2021 22:08

Our room is 27.
2.5yo is in t-shirt and short PJ's
6 month old in vest and nappy

Peachee · 17/07/2021 22:18

27 degrees, ds is 19 months, he’s in just a nappy and cellular blanket over legs which he can kick off. Just been in to check and his skin feels fine and cool. He has a tendency to get hot and clammy. He’s got windows open and the door ajar for circulation. It’s so stressful worrying about this heat.

Mansplainee · 17/07/2021 22:25

Its 31 in my 2 year olds bedroom, she’s in a nappy and sleeveless vest. She has a blanket but has thrown it off. Windows are only slightly open but she has a fan on her and a bottle of water.
We have the monitor on and she seems to be flat out in there so hopefully comfortable.
She’s got the only fan in her room (I ordered another one but it hasn’t arrived), I’m heavily pregnant so preparing for an uncomfortable nights sleep! 😭

missturnbullx · 17/07/2021 22:38

@Peachee it really is stressful isn't it 😩

NigellaSeed · 17/07/2021 23:35

And now to sneakily close the windows. Wish me luck....

Kokosrieksts · 18/07/2021 16:22

Nappy and a little vest top. No duvet. Must have been +29c or 30c in the room.

missturnbullx · 18/07/2021 21:31

It is even hotter tonight!
