Party with paddling pool - help!

My best friend is having her birthday party in her garden today. There’ll be several families with toddler age kids there and she’s going to do a paddling pool.

What do I need to dress my 16 month old in for this? Do I need swim shorts and a swim nappy under her usual clothes as if she’s going swimming? She doesn’t have a swimming costume unfortunately so it would have to be shorts only. Is the swim nappy necessary for a quick dip in the paddling pool?

I can’t believe I don’t know this stuff 16 months in… WWYD?

I'd go swim nappy only probably - normal nappies just swell up hugely as soon as they get wet so no good really as I assume she'll just sit down in it straight away like my dd would!

Swim nappy, but change her just before she goes in as they don't hold wee.

Then shorts and t-shirt and change afterwards. (And suncream)

I would just take a swim nappy with me and take off whatever clothes they are wearing and pop the swim nappy on when they wanted a dip. I think it would be best to use a swim nappy as there will be other kids in the pool too Smile

What a fantasticly timed post. We're off to a family party today where there is a pool and I have been wondering the same for DS 19 months. I've settled on a reusable swim nappy and some generic swimming shorts to wear on top.

Due to covid he's never actually been swimming but I figured a swim nappy would be more comfortable than a normal nappy.

Thanks everyone! Will she need proper swimming shorts over the swim nappy? Or could she just wear the swim nappy? As we don’t have a swimming costume would you put her in a t-shirt or vest to cover her top half to protect her from the sun? Or would that be uncomfortable? So many questions!

I had no idea… thanks!! Wait, does that mean all the wee ends up in the pool? Confused

From my limited knowledge there are no swim nappies that contain wee their only purpose is to keep the poo out of the pool.

Swim nappy and a UV swim suit with arms and legs.

Yes! Swimming nappies are just to stop poo.

If you’ve got time to nip to a big supermarket you should be able to pick up a little UV swim suit with arms and legs. It’s going to be boiling today and saves the faff of suncream everywhere.

I used to double bag DD - swim nappy then swim shorts on top. If they are out in the sun yes yes to sun cream and T shirt. Hope you have lots of fun

leakymcleakleak · 17/07/2021 09:41

Honestly I'd try to get a rash suit / UV vest cheaply in a supermarket this morning. They dry really quickly, in and out of a pool in a t shirt will be v uncomfortable, and you don't ideally want top half exposed. Also make sure you have waterproof sunscreen.

As others have said, water nappies are for chlorinated pools and really to keep poo out of the water so with a non-potty changed child and shared paddling pool I'd be changing nappy regularly and keeping an eye on. Also sunhat.

Wee goes straight through swim nappies so you'll need to take her in a normal one and swap before and after paddling pool.

Toddler Dd was in pool yesterday, she has costume. Baby Dd does not. I just put swim nappy and short sleeved vest, it covered her top and held nappy in place.
