Has anyone’s baby caught Covid before? If so what were the symptoms and how do you test them? Tia!

My DD had it when she was 8 months - I didn’t test her but I tested positive so I knew she must have caught it from me. She had a temperature, snotty nose, bit of a cough and was extremely miserable. Lasted about 1.5 weeks.

We had it when DC2 was about 6 weeks - we didn't test him or DC1 as both me & DH tested positive and we all had the symptoms. Bit of a high temp for a few hours and a cough that lasted a couple of weeks but was pretty much same as usual and didn't seem to bother him too much.

Yes. My DS has just turned 7 months and has covid just now.
I took him for a PCR test last week on the advice of a doctor. DH had just tested positive the same morning, I was negative until a few days later so I wanted to know if DH should isolate away from us if baby was negative.
He had a cough, stuffed up nose and was generally unsettled. 7 days in and he seems much better already

@Scotabroad24 did they have to swab his tonsils?

On young children you don’t do the tonsils, just both nostrils. Which is not easy, but easier than tonsils!

I have done about 5 PCRs on my 2 year old, all negative. I assume she had covid when my husband and I probably did back in March 2020, but none of us got tested (I later had a positive antibody test though). She just had a dodgy tummy for a couple of days.

No they just did one nostril. I was really nervous taking him but it was over quick and he barely noticed tbh!

My daughter had it when she was about 7 months - 5 days of snuffly nose, and an upset tummy, which took a few weeks to fully resolve.

Is there anything I can give a 10 week old with a cough? Calpol says 3months+

OP posts:
Vicky1989x · 17/07/2021 08:26

@AyyX I thought Calpol was 2 months+?

AyyX · 17/07/2021 08:29

On the back it says 3-6months and up instructions so I’m guessing you can’t give it to them younger?

Could you check in the pharmacy if you get liquid baby paracetamol or suppositories? Where i live I got given paracetamol in suppository form for DS when he was 8 weeks and had his first vaccinations
