Teething

I'm a new mum and have never seen or had to deal with a teething child before. My baby is three months tomorrow. Her symptoms are constantly trying to gnaw on her toys or her hands, she has flushed cheeks, constant dribbling within the past two days which has caused a little rash on her chin. Is this her teething? She's not massively irritable just gets frustrated when wanting to gnaw. I've had a look at her gums but don't really know what I'm looking for because I don't know what babies gums look like prior to teething, I see a tiny bit of white very low down the gums but could've been there before? How did you know your babies were teething? Smile

I spent from 3-12 months thinking my DD was teething when she wasn’t… but boy did I know it when she actually was! I could see white on her gums for months, flushed cheeks, chewing everything.

My DD seemed to suffer more when the teeth were moving rather than cutting which can take months. I’ve attached a pic of when she was about to cut her first tooth.. she had a grey indent in the gum then the next day I saw a tooth (she was 1 year and 6 days). She also had a slight temperature and a snotty nose, but she had a cold at the same time. I didn’t notice her next 2 teeth cutting other than being irritable and off her food/milk.

This sounds really similar to my DD2 when she is teething. She's 11 months now but those symptoms you describe seemed to start quite early for her too yet it took a while for a tooth to actually appear. She also bursts in to tears spontaneously too, especially if she's been chewing on something and hit a tender spot. Unfortunately, I don't think the symptoms mean a tooth is imminent so it's just a case of trying to comfort them while they're in it really!
