Grunting Baby…

My three week old hasn’t pooped in 48 hours now. He lies in his crib or in the bed next to me straining, grunting and pretty much going bright red from it.

I’ve read about babies having to learn to poop and this sounds like what it could be, but I’m at my wits end. He is so unsettled and there’s nothing I can do to help.

Does anyone have any advice??

Are you bf or formula feeding? We had this for around 3 or 4 months, the only things that helped us was changing formula and the GP recommended a half scoop less of powder. So for example a 6oz bottle we'd put 5.5 scoops in. But the pooing was only once a week for us. Before that we tried stomach massage, there's a video on Instagram that shows how to do it well but I can't remember the page. Bicycle kicks and holding them in the tiger in a tree position is supposed to help get things going too and help them figure it out. Some babies need to learn how to relax the muscles to allow it to pass. Have you tried infacol as well? It helps with gas so may help a little with the discomfort. You have my sympathy, it's awful seeing them so uncomfortable when you know what will solve it but they just can't figure it out

@BeHappyAndSmile Thanks for your reply!
We’ve given him a warm bath, tummy massages and bicycle kicks. I’ll have a look at the tiger in a tree position!
He is formula fed mainly, I do try to express as much as possible for him as he was unable to latch due to complications. But I also don’t have a great supply so trying to increase that while looking after a little one who won’t settle unless he’s attached to me 😂
I’ve done some research today and I think we are going to try him on Cow and Gate Comfort milk as well as switching to Mam Anti Colic bottles with a medium teat. He has infacol before feeds, luckily he loves the taste and it seems to settle him slightly so he can at least feed without wriggling and grunting 🙈
