I think at that age they should be having the vegetable purees by themselves, no?

CrystalTits · 06/07/2021 17:44

Oh thank God, I thought this was a baby name thread… Grin

At 6 months, you can just give chunks of steamed or roasted beetroot. But if you really want to puree, just puree the beetroot. It doesn't have to go with anything. It can, if you want, and it's fine to mix all sorts. But no reason to. Many of the purees are just veg mixed with fruit to make them sweet and more palatable, but there's no reason you need to do that if you're making them yourself.

Just beetroot is fine, but be aware tomorrow's nappies will be spectacular. You only add in foods a baby has already had, so you know if there's an issue with a food.

You could add apple or potato, or maybe carrot, if they are familiar flavours.
Also rice.

picklemewalnuts · 06/07/2021 17:54

Tinned pear would work, too, if you have that.

cinders15 · 06/07/2021 17:54

Apple?
Anything mixed with Apple got wolfed down!

This is very outdated advice and is only recommended for babies with multiple allergies. Allergies can start the first, third or hundredth time a baby has a particular food.
picklemewalnuts · 06/07/2021 18:11

Really? So you can introduce multiple foods at the same time? I don't know anyone who's doing that.

Junobug · 06/07/2021 18:18

I was going to say feta and mint but it would be wasted on a 6 month old. All have mine have liked chunks of roast beetroot and sweet potato though.

BertieBotts · 06/07/2021 18:19

Of course you can introduce multiple foods at once. You can introduce single foods as well, it doesn't matter, just do whatever feels right.

I'd probably add something like carrot and potato. Love the idea of feta and mint though :o

Wenslydale cheese. Trust me.

AAkim · 06/07/2021 23:31

What mummy makes book has beetroot pancake recipe which my little boy loves. Beetroot is a great food for them full of nutrients!

Geluksvogel · 06/07/2021 23:46

We used to roast beetroot and apples and then blend as a weaning food and then freeze in cubes. Went down a treat at 6 months. Not as keen now older!

NiceGerbil · 06/07/2021 23:49

For a baby that age beetroot goes with a heavy duty bib Grin

NiceGerbil · 06/07/2021 23:50

I'm also not that sure if babies are so picky about what foods go together either Grin

BertieBotts · 07/07/2021 02:10

Haha yes or the top that your MIL gave you with the tacky slogan on it :o

Yep, the "Nana's lil bubs prince" one. Get that beetroot puree smeared on it good.

Beetrosa? Sorry also assumed a baby name thread!

JovialNickname · 07/07/2021 03:02

Back to the actual thread though, are you a masochist? Purple wee, purple poo, purple bib, purple floor, purple sick.... are you sure you don't have a banana handy?
