Prams - Used or Secondhand?

skipperdoo · 02/07/2021 14:34

What do you think is best?

Also, looked at these prams today, if anyone has any advice or alternative suggestions would be great Smile

Looking for all-terrain wheels, ability to clip in car seat, but not too fussed about weight/size.

Used
They hold their value really well so you will still be spending loads but new prams are crazy money
Buy a new pram mattress though (sids)

Definitely used. We got a Bugaboo way way reduced in price, and it has been excellent for us. I love love the Fox! There is just something about how easy the Bugaboo is, and I love the parent facing, and away facing and really just all of it. I also like to switch my hoods (a bit too often - lol). It's very good quality. There are a million buy-sell bugaboo sites on facebook, or secondhand pram shops that specialise in Bugaboo too if interested.

BertieBotts · 02/07/2021 14:54

Used unless you want the guarantee or are really fussy about colour. The price difference is incredible and these are all decent quality so won't be destroyed. Just get a new car seat, as it's best to have one that you know the history of. Those pushchairs take universal (Maxi Cosi / Nuna / Joie / Besafe / Cybex) adapters and may even take Britax adapters too. For Britax seats the newer ones are for universal/Maxi cosi adapters and the older ones need the specific Britax adapters.

I didn't replace the mattress for ours as we didn't use it for overnight sleeping and I believe the new mattress thing has been disproven now anyway.

I have the Icandy peach and I find it amazing 🤩 so sturdy as I love walking through the woods with our and just generally everyday use in town we find it so easy that it's a travel system too so our car chair can fit it when baby had fallen asleep on the way somewhere

We where also given our pram too so it's already been used for 2 years before us and besides the odd mark on the wheels & pram frame it's like new

Mrbay · 02/07/2021 17:34

I tried all of the ones you listed above.

Vista - handled easily one handed but not as nice as the Fox2 in my opinion. Also frame is very heavy but the basinet is suitable for overnight sleeping. Folds up neatly. Brought a 2nd hand one for £35, which I'll use down the yard with the horse.

ICandy - tried the all terrain - heavy to push, heavy to pick up, not very smooth to push.

Fox2 - I love this pram! Frame is light weight, very easy to push one handed (I have dogs so this was important to me). Great features such as kicking the big wheels under the frame for getting up and down steps/stairs. Great suspension. I have purchased this 2nd hand as I cannot justify spending nearly £1k on a pram! Brought a 6 month old one in perfect condition for £500.

Another vote for the Bugaboo Fox. We did buy ours new but 18 months in we're still using it at least once daily and it's just so practical. Being able to push and steer it one-handed is a lifesaver in shops if you need to carry a basket etc. It's been well worth the money.

I thought used and secondhand were the same thing. What do you mean, OP?

BertieBotts · 02/07/2021 17:46

I assume she meant new or second hand!

EssentialHummus · 02/07/2021 17:46

I don’t know these particular models but used all the way. You can pick up a lightly used model for about half the full price.

LakeShoreD · 02/07/2021 18:04

I have an icandy peach and absolutely can’t stand it. Want to buy it? Grin 4 years old but barely used because it’s a terrible pram! I have a lot of friends with Vistas and they seem really good, crucially it has proper tires, but they are really heavy.

@tofuschnitzel they are the same! Confused blame it on baby brain!

Thanks everyone for replies!

Uppababy here and like it - the basket is HUGE so no need for extra bags hanging off the bars or clips etc. The bassinet can be sued overnight when they are small and it can convert into a double for the future if necessary. I bought new but on reflection I would also buy second hand if I saw one in good condition!

AliceW89 · 03/07/2021 10:09

I love my bugaboo fox 2. It’s an incredible buggy. But I do wish we had got it second hand instead of new!!

herewegoohherewego · 03/07/2021 10:26

Gosh I hate the bugaboo fox!! Feels so cheap and rattley as soon as you extend the handlebar.

I've got an icandy peach and it's brilliant.

Chelyanne · 03/07/2021 10:37

If it's a 1st baby and you intend to have more children I would go new.
Our 1st we had a travel system that cost almost £300 new and it did well for 3 children. Our twins we went new again but a much cheaper zeta vooom double stroller as we were limited on boot space, done the same for this baby but single version.
I find the prices of some of these prams sickening.

Pigeonorcoot · 03/07/2021 11:45

We've got a 2nd hand bugaboo fox and I think it's great. Nice small turning curve so it works for use in town/shops etc but still great for pushing around the park on grass or on trails in the woods. I've heard people complain that it's not a "proper all terrain buggy" but it's been fine for my purposes. I've never tried it on sand or wood chips.

Foreverbaffled · 03/07/2021 12:49

The uppababy vista is fabulous! After two babies though the rubber on the front tyres has cracked. Makes no difference to us but something to check if you're buying second hand especially if you want to use it for more than one baby eventually Smile
