High pitched screaming?!

Hi all,

Long story short, my 2.6 year old boy is a squealer. Over everything. It doesn’t have to be me telling him no or telling him off. Just now I told him no crisps as i’m cooking dinner, he asked for dinner and I replied yes it’s just cooking and he high pitched screamed. If we leave the house and I asked to hold hands, he will scream. If we are stood waiting for the bus, he screams.

He’s generally a really well behaved toddler, always says sorry straight after he’s smacked me in a tantrum, well behaved on public transport etc. No problems at all besides the screaming. It’s so dramatic I am concerned the neighbours think i’m provoking him but it’s literally a response to something as simple as me telling him dinner can’t be immediate as it’s cooking.

obviously a slight running theme with it is him not getting what he wants straight away. I’m just wondering when do they grow out of this? is there any way to calm it down.. because when I’ve googled the only advice I could find is when they scream during a tantrum, it’s never in a tantrum it’s just a random high-pitched squeal over nothing!

FWIW i’ve tried whispering in response, covering my ears, a firm “No!”, a “that’s not very nice.”… Sad

My ears can’t take much more! Grin
