When could your baby crawl?

At what age did your baby start to crawl and how much tummy time did you give them in a day?

Just after nine months, we did tummy time when we remembered but weren’t very ‘strict’ with it.

BertieBotts · 27/06/2021 16:09

My first was 8 months, didn't really do tummy time as a thing as I thought it was a bit ridiculous.

DS2 was 9 months, we had tummy time drilled into us and he actually quite enjoyed it so at least 15 mins per day.

If someone is telling you that a six month old is supposed to be crawling, they are wrong. It's a much later milestone than most people think.

BertieBotts · 27/06/2021 16:10

Oh but DS1 spent a lot of time in a sling on me which I was told at the time helps develop the same muscles.

Eldest was a bum shuffler. Learnt crawling after she could walk.
Youngest...five months.

They had similar amounts of tummy time. Although DD2 did also learn to roll early, so often got herself onto her tummy...

LetItBe80 · 27/06/2021 16:11

9 months… after very little inclination to move or try to crawl, our DS crawled in a 6’ straight line in one go across the grass. Probably didn’t like our floors!

CMOTDibbler · 27/06/2021 16:11

The week before he was one. He didn't bum shuffle, get around by rolling or anything, just sat around then cruised the furniture at 11 months and I thought he would just go straight to walking. He only did crawling for a few weeks before he walked and never crawled again

DramaAlpaca · 27/06/2021 16:13

My three all crawled at 8 months. I didn't do tummy time, it wasn't a thing then. They walked at 10 months, 11 months and 12 months.

RedToothBrush · 27/06/2021 16:15

He didnt.

He never crawled. Weirdly. Shuffled on his back, then went from that to pulling up and cruising at 6 months. But didn't walk until 14 months.

Caspianberg · 27/06/2021 16:19

Mine actually crawled and walked super early. About 4 months crawling and walked just before 9 months. It’s a nightmare tbh. They are moving before they understand anything.

Twizbe · 27/06/2021 16:21

Every baby is different.

Both mine didn't crawl until 11 months or so. With my first I was a bit worried as everyone was telling me he should be crawling much before that.

Topseyt · 27/06/2021 16:22

DD1 crawled at almost a year old and walked at 14 months.

Neither DD2 nor DD3 ever crawled. They were both bum shufflers from about the age of 8 or 9 months and were consequently late walkers, as bum shufflers often are. DD2 walked at 23 months and DD3 at 21 months.

All are now adults and totally normal.

ChocOrange1 · 27/06/2021 16:29

DD1 9 months we didn't do much tummy time as she hated it.

DD2 5.5 months she was rolling over at 12 weeks so used to do a lot of tummy time because she would roll herself there 😂

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 27/06/2021 16:31

7 months, walked at 12 months. Variable on the tummy time, wouldnt say it was a priority.

seepingweeping · 27/06/2021 16:36

My son was just shy of 6 months and my daughter was 10 months.

LemonLemonLemon · 27/06/2021 16:42

6 months and it was a nightmare. Like PP said, they’re too young to understand anything. I found 6-12m difficult as we couldn’t sit still in the house at all.

Did lots of tummy time because he enjoyed his water mat and i used to put him on the L shape bit on the sofa and let him watch me potter about. He also spent a lot of time in a carrier and sling which helps

Souther · 27/06/2021 16:42

First one about 9 months.
Second kid about 10 months

mistermagpie · 27/06/2021 16:45

Three kids and mine were all about 9-10 months old. We never really did tummy time as a set thing, I would occasionally stick them on their tummies for a few minutes but it wasn't something I was conscious of.

My niece never crawled at all but walked at 11 months. All of mine crawled and my eldest never walked until he was 18 months, so I don't think crawling is much of an indication of anything really.

SupermanInk · 27/06/2021 16:46

My son started commando crawling at just over 6 months and ‘proper’ crawling on hands and knees at about 7 months.
My daughter commando crawled at just over 7 months and then crawled properly at 8 months.

My son had lots of tummy time as he’d roll over as soon as I put him on his back. My daughter hated being on her tummy til she could move so she didn’t get much at all as she used to scream so I’d pick her up.

My friends daughter never crawled. She went straight from rolling and bum shuffling to cruising and walking.

Getawriggleon · 27/06/2021 16:48

8 months, was rolling the length of our open plan house from 5mo though
Second is 7mo and looks like he could go any second.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 27/06/2021 16:48

around the 6-7? mark.
I think DS4 & DS6 were about 5.5m old

ImInACage · 27/06/2021 16:49

First one was five and a half months, like a PP said, it was an absolute nightmare because he was so young and had zero understanding. He had an average amount of tummy time I'd say, maybe an hour or so a day, but could hold his own head up from birth and was never a squishy cuddly baby. He's now nine and has been diagnosed with ADHD, which explains a lot!

Second one had way more tummy time because he preferred being on his front. He was nearly eleven months when he finally got up onto his knees.

They're all different OP. Some do things earlier, some later.

kowari · 27/06/2021 16:51

5 months. Not much tummy time, I always put him on his front as he didn't like being put down on his back either, but he was mostly carried or worn until he started crawling.

TheFabledSnake · 27/06/2021 16:52

She was about 9 months or so. I did tummy time a lot but she just didn't do it until she was ready!

Amammai · 27/06/2021 16:58

7.5 months. We did quite a lot of tummy time from early on and more from 12 weeks. Also lots and lots of time down on the floor/blanket/play gym on his back form birth. He was always just very active and loved kicking his legs about. Walking with a walker by 10 months and independently not long after.

As others have said, they are all different and it meant that he was off exploring/finding danger/never giving us a minutes peace. Still an incredibly active pre-Schooler now.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 27/06/2021 17:01

We never did tummy tim, they hated it so after a few tries I lost interest.
They rolled around 4-5 months, then crawled
