First Period After C Section

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering when everyone got their first period after c section, & if this was fairly early on how did you tell the difference from lochia?

I know it can vary from person to person but just interested in other peoples experiences.

I will be 6 weeks post section on Monday & we are formula feeding, lochia had tailed off about a week to ten days ago, and then this last few days I have had some medium bleeding on & off with period type pains - not sure if this is first period or I have just been overdoing it this last week & having further lochia bleeding.

Still haven't had mine but I think that's a result of breastfeeding

2 x C sections here and breastfeeding for no more than 3 weeks. Lochia for about 3 weeks. Period returned after about 4 months both times.

Breastfeeding, first time I got it back at 8 weeks, this baby I got it at 5 weeks.

I breastfed my first for two years and got my period at about 18 months when they went down to a couple of feeds a day.

Mine came back 11 weeks post section with formula feeding and 2 weeks of top up breastfeeding at the start. I had lochia for about 4 weeks after the section. The first period was a bit weird as it felt as if things were in a slightly different place but otherwise normal enough.

First period was 5 months, super light hardly enough for a pad and only lasted a few days.

Next period was fucking horrendous. Felt like a teenager again with the flooding

Thanks everyone for your responses, they sound just as varied as I thought! Just feel like it’s so hard to tell the difference but at this stage maybe I’m too early for first period… I’m due 6 week check up consultation with GP this week so will ask for their advice too.

I think that will have been your first period. I've had two sections and FF both. First period started 6 weeks after the section with my first. I had a slightly longer post section bleed with my second and slightly longer start date for my period but it was certainly within 8 weeks post section. I think it can be quiet quick post section if you are not breastfeeding.

3 months on still haven't had one but am breastfeeding and on the progesterone only pill

I was quite shocked at how quickly mine came on. I struggled with breastfeeding and supply but was still pumping 8 times days and night.

5 weeks post csection. I also struggled to tell the difference between it being a period, lochia from overdoing things, or something gone wrong.

Try not to worry. If it lasts roughly the same number of days as your period it is probably that. My second period was after 40 days and then back to the regular 28 days..so you'll only know in a couple of months for sure.

About 15 months, but I was breastfeeding.
