Today I was in such a rush around the house while looking after my nephew and while my son who is 5months of was screaming I forgot to boil the water in the kettle and accidentally gave him a bottle it was warm water inside so I thought the water was boiled until I started to give him I'm so worried now what do you guys think I should do ?

There's nothing to do now. If he's fine (which he probably will be) he's fine. You can't now stop him getting a tummy bug from it, if he's going to. If he does get a tummy bug, you'll give small frequent drinks to keep him hydrated, and seek help if he's not managing to keep those down.

TurtleBay28 · 21/06/2021 20:52

Are you sure it wasn't previously boiled?
I say don't panic but if I did that I know how I'd be so I totally get how you feel.

I assume it would (touch wood) be okay. If you're in doubt just phone 111 they are there to advise and it might make you feel better.

Is your DS okay in himself? x

Don't worry, 5 months he'll be fine.

DarcyLewis · 21/06/2021 20:57

Tap water is safe. You are only advised to give boiled water until 6 months anyway.
This is something I wouldn't worry about at all.

LakeShoreD · 21/06/2021 20:59

Tap water is fine for babies over 6 months according to the NHS. At 5 months baby is nearly there. I’m sure they will be fine.

DennisTMenace · 21/06/2021 20:59

At 5 months they are probably chewing teethers, toys, your fingers, books, the cat etc. Unboiled water will be fine unless you are incredibly unlucky. You will be giving them food in a month too and none of that is sterile.

I strongly suspect he will survive

iusedtoloveopalfruits1 · 21/06/2021 21:10

I didn’t do the cleaning cycle on my prep machine correctly for months so my DS was essentially getting tap water for weeks and weeks and no harm has come to him!

Tap water is apparently perfectly safe babies in the uk. If you are in an area where the water isn’t safe a quick boil in a kettle isn’t enough to kill the bugs, a 10 minute rolling boil is needed for that

mayblossominapril · 21/06/2021 21:15

I will add I still have mine boiled cooled water

mayblossominapril · 21/06/2021 21:15

Gave not have

Somethingsnappy · 22/06/2021 10:24

OP, did you mean you gave him water or that you used the warm water to make up formula? I think the advice is to use boiling water to make up formula in order to kill any bacteria that may be in the powder. That said, it's unlikely to be a problem. All OK today?
