7 month ear infection help

I am looking for some advice please!

A few weeks ago, my daughter had flushed cheeks, was pulling at her ears and was very unhappy. We put this down to teething so we were giving her nurofen and calpol if and when needed and teething gel. After a week of no teeth appearing and her acting the same especially with her ears (almost pulling her hair out!!) I took her to the doctors and said I think it could be an ear infection as teething gels etc seem to do nothing.

The dr agreed although he couldn't see anything inside of her ears due to excess wax however she did shriek when he put the thing to see inside her left ear inside but not her right. (She has only been grabbing her left ear).

He gave her 5 days antibiotics in case there was an ear infection and I saw a difference in her immediately. However, when the course stopped, a day later all the symptoms came back. Sticking her finger in her ear, gunk in the ear, constant crying etc. I called dr back and he said he's happy to give an extra 5 days as the usual course is for 10 days.

We finished that course yesterday and today both ears are gunky and she's grabbing both ears and is emotional again.

I'm not sure if I'm just being dramatic, could it just be ear wax and a 'phase' that she enjoys to pull her ears? She just seems in pain and to me it's weird that when she's on the antibiotics, the symptoms disappear!

I'm lost on what to do as they can't physically 'see' an infection.

Any advice?
