Epilepsy in toddler

My son is 2 & a half and was diagnosed with epilepsy 6 months ago. He takes a small dose of Keppra daily but I’m wondering if it affects his behaviour, compared to other kids his age he is a lot more hyper active and aggressive in his behaviour. I mentioned it to neurologist & HV but they put my concerns down to ‘terrible twos’ Has anyone had any experience of this?

I haven’t got any experience of epilepsy in toddlers but I’ve got epilepsy myself and take keppra and have done for the last 10 years. For me I do think it has an slight impact on how I react to situations i can be more dramatic and get effected things I may have left go before.

I work in healthcare specialising in epilepsy. Aggression and irritability can often be side effects of levetiracetam. Treatment is often a trade off between trying to minimise seizure activity or reduce behaviours that challenge.

Thank you. At the moment his behaviour doesn’t greatly concern me, I’ve just noticed the different ways he reacts to certain situations compared to other 2 year old & am worried that it is going to get worse as he gets older.
