Omeprazole (losac) for babies

Been prescribed this for my baby. 7 weeks old. Dissolvable tablets.

The GP and the leaflet says it can be given any time on an empty stomach or with food. I've read on here to give it 2 hours after a feed and 30 minutes before.
Confused!

What did other people do? What's the actual recommended thing to do? I don't want to make my life any harder.

Thanks

Both my boys are on it. I dissolve the dose in 5ml of cooled boiled water in a 10ml syringe with a small air bubble to allow me to shake it and give all the medicine. It takes about 5-10 minutes to full dissolve then I syringe it slowly into baby's mouth. I usually give it before the morning feed maybe 10 minutes before. It tastes horrible so they cry whilst getting it and want fed right away

Sorry if that isn't very clear. DS1 who is 15 months has just come off it and DS2 12 weeks has been on it since week 3

@alexio ok thanks for the info. I'm confused though - do you pop the whole tablet into the syringe with the water?

I was told to dissolve it in 10 mls then draw up 4ml for my son. Just gave him his first dose. Bit of a faff and there were some bits left in the syringe.

Did you find it worked straight away? I mean how soon did you notice a difference?

Thanks

@Mazzatron it depends on what dose he is prescribed? It's usually 10mg tablets given, my son was on 5mg so I cut the tablet in half and put it all in the water in the syringe.

When the tablet dissolves it dissolves into power and little beads so if you are dissolving it in a cup and drawing up 4ml you need to make sure you don't just draw up the water or your baby won't be getting the correct amount.

From what I was told both times I've had it prescribed for sons 5mg is the starting dose so clarify if that's the dose you've to give.

Yes it worked after a few hours I definitely noticed a difference but as your baby gets older they might need the dose increased

If there is some left in the syringe I just draw up more fresh water (not the water you dissolved the tablet in) and give the syringe a shake and that gets the last of it out

@alexio thank you.
I did notice some little bits in the syringe afterwards - how annoying! I will do what you mentioned next time.

They said for his weight it's 4ml but they will review it in 2 weeks and up the dosage depending on his weight.

Thanks for your tips!
