8 month old refusing milk

Any suggestions as to how I can get my 8 month old to drink her milk?

Since having solids she's bored of milk now but isn't hitting her required amount of daily milk intake. I know the first year their main source of nutrition should be from milk so I'm quite worried now

I feel like I've tried every trick I can think of but if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get her to drink milk that would be great!

She's even going long period of time in between meals so I know she's hungry and she still doesn't want her milk! Bahhhh!!

Can you describe what she is having in a day? Some babies do naturally drop their milk earlier than others.

@MikeWozniaksMohawk well today she's had a total of 350ml but babies should be consuming 600ml of formula daily. This is what I've been told by numerous people and my HV

She has definitely dropped milk feeds but was consistently hitting 600ml until a few days ago when all of the sudden she's just not interested

If it’s only happened in the last few days I would put it down to a blip because of the heat. I know it’s stressful but try not to stress too much. It will likely increase again.

All of my DC did this at around the 8 month mark. I always assumed it was partly weaning and partly them all getting more active, wanting to look around and do things for themselves. Lying still was boring!

I gave them stuff to hold, not just toys but keys, TV remote, small bottles (fully closed obviously) to keep them distracted, that always seemed to help.

I’m pretty sure if they go under 500ml of milk your supposed to give them a multi vitamin to combat them not having enough milk! You can get a liquid one in superdrug etc. I put it on a piece of fruit or cereal.
My son never really did the 500 ml thing once he got right into his food.

@thenonsensepotter I do this too but she's sussed me out and even keys, phone and remote don't work anymore

Do you use her milk to make food, like baby porridge ?

DressingGown87 · 16/06/2021 23:07

@SassyPants87 DD 8mo has also dropped her milk, but this has been going on quite some time. But not being substituted by food either.
I don’t know whether it’s just a “game” as she finds it funny, shaking her head, covering her mouth, shouting no, and blowing raspberries when offered a bottle. We have started the vitamins and keep persevering.

dementedpixie · 16/06/2021 23:13

Milk in cereal and dairy products count towards the total too. Its vitamins A,C and D that its advised to supplement when taking less than 500mls of formula per day

Oh @SassyPants87 so I have the same issue with my 8 month old . She drinks no milk - the bottle of milk seems to be her enemy . I have tried to trick her by giving it in a beaker or in a cup - but it doesn’t work . I feel stressed that the milk consumption has dropped.

Same as your baby , I know she’s hungry but refuses it ? Things like cheese have high salt content - so not even sure how to sneak it in . If you find a way - please share x

Hi. You've just described my 10 month old. The minute we started weaning, he wouldn't take the bottle. He has loved food from day 1. By 8 months, he was just having formula in his porridge and a 4oz bottle before bed. By 9 months, just in the porridge. This week, we ran out of formula and decided that's it.
I give him a multi vit. He eats loads. He's my 4th and he's definitely on track growth wise. No point fighting with it as it was just getting too stressful.
