Symptoms of baby reflux or CMPA

Hello,

My 4 week old has been having these symptoms and I'm not sure if it's colic or a digestive issue...

  • Fussing at bottle when I pull away to burp him
  • Coughing after feeds
  • Wheezy / sounds bunged up after feeds
  • Beings up milk / bubbles occasionally
  • Screams from 7pm - 1am... sometimes more, nothing works to comfort him.
  • Doesn't like being laid flat at night, usually doesn't mind it in the day, but sometimes is fussy.

We started him on cow and gate in hospital because of the ready made formula. We then changed to HIPP but he didn't get on with that so now we've been on Kendamil for 2 weeks.

Just not sure if it's him having a small stomach and being young or if it's the first signs of something wrong.

Any experiences similar?

He may have acid reflux which is common in babies especially as their eosophagus muscles still need to become stronger for the little ones and their swallowing reflex may still be growing too. Try to burp him, keep him upright after feeds for as long as required, perhaps elevate his bed by putting a pillow or something else under the mattress where his head goes so that he’s not laying flat, give him small feeds but often or big feeds less often to allow to digest properly before the next feed and make sure feeds are nice and warm. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I posted about DS2 a couple months about sounds similar to your situation.
Turns out he has an intolerance to milk (we are on SMA lactose free now) and GERD.
I'll send the link incase you want to have a read what we were going through and see if it sounds like your LO.

Sorry you're going through this as I know it's such a worry. For our DS we used the thicker anti reflux milk (cow and gate). You cant get it ready made up but can still use the perfect prep if you have one (just put hot shot in, then press for the rest of the water. Once all the water is in add the formula and shake). We also used infacol before each feed which really helped. Speak to your gp or health visitor though to see what they recommend.
