Newborn belly button - is this normal?

DS is 11 days old and today his umbilical cord stump (?) fell off. Attached is a pic of what’s left behind - does this look normal? We are seeing the midwife tomorrow so I will of course ask her to check it, but to save me a night of worried googling thought I would ask the hive mind of MN. Thanks in advance 😊

My little girls was like this,.I thought it could be a small hernia and the HV agreeded but she's 3 months now and it's gone back in

Looks fine to me! My DS's looked similar 🙂

Just checked with my wife who is a neonatal nurse, she confirms this is normal. If any is left inside it will come out on its own

My sons were both like this OP and they have “normal” innies now.

I’m hazarding a guess that it’s fine and will heal into an ‘outie’ belly button. I may be wrong but that’s what it looks like to me.

Looks normal with a small umbilical hernia. They normally correct themselves in a couple of months. No need to worry but mention it tomorrow (so you don't seem negligent).

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate it.

@JC1989 your wife is my hero!
