Long/tall baby?

Hi all,

Curious rather than concerned:

At 9 weeks and 2 days my baby weighed 12.8lbs and measured 63cm. She has always been quite long for her sleepsuits so I'm now putting her in leggings and socks. She's in the 75th centile for weight but I don't know about height. When I look online it seems like she's off the height charts for her age! Has anyone had a long/tall baby and did it mean they were tall as they got older? Did it mean they were quite hungry babies?

My DD had really long legs. She was 95+centile length, but 25centile weight that nearly caused a HV panic at one point (until the head HV pointed out her legs!)
She looked out of place as a young child, but as she was a summer born not overly (tallest girl but youngest girl, so not much taller than her friends).
At the moment she's average amongst friends, but she hasn't started puberty yet and tbey have (nearly 10). She still looks like she's on stilts if she wears shorts.

Biggest problem is getting trousers that are long enough but don't fall down. Skinny jeans look like normal ones. Her sports leggings are baggy.

Her sister, born a year and half later, had growth issues. They looked like a lot bigger gap (3 years at least.) Thankfully her health has improved now and she's up to 75th centile heightwise. (She's 8.)

Avoid Tesco and Asda baby clothes. John Lewis was quite slim fitting, as was Sainsbury's. Might have changed in the last few years though.

I was on the 98th percentile when born and am the 97.5th percentile now as an adult. Mum said she had to cut the feet off our babygrows

Everyone who has seen my little one always say he is so tall for his age.
At his 8 week check up he was 63 cm, off all the charts, but his weight was on the 50th centile, pretty average. The nurse said that usually the average height is around 58-59cm.
I told her that I’m 5’9, my partner is 6’2. I don’t think he’s gonna be a short one!
That’s why I don’t buy anymore any sleepsuits, if the body fits or is even big for him then legs and feet are waaaay too short.

DD1 was premature but even on NICU they commented how long she was. She's now 9 and still all bloody long legs - but her dad is 6 foot 7 and most of his height is leg length rather than a long body so the genetics are there.

I gave up on babygros very early and we used pyjamas to sleep in from about 6 months because it was getting ridiculous the sizing to get the leg length needed

DS is only 5 months but is 98th centile, as was I as a baby.

I’m now 5ft 9 so about where the chart said I would end up. DS could be anywhere between 5ft 11 and 6ft 7.

His grandfathers are both tall at 6ft 4 and 6ft 6 so I was expecting a long baby.

He’s “only” 75th centile for weight but looks in proportion and is a big eater, still feeding 8-9 times a day.

John Lewis have been the best for clothes that are long but not too wide.

I’ve got two tall kids, but I’m 5ft8 and DH is 6ft4.
My eldest is almost 4 and I’m starting to buy age 5-6 as she’s too tall for 4-5 sundresses from most shops.
My youngest is 18m but he’s skinny so in a mix of 12-18 for shorts but 18-24 for trousers where he needs the length but they’re noticeably big round the waist.

I like H&M and John Lewis for long babies. H&M do footless sleepsuits which will last longer on a tall baby. Lindex have some nice vests that have two rows of poppers and fold down cuffs so they last longer too

Both of mine are tall. 6mo DS is in 9-12 month clothes since 5 months because he's got a really long body and DD3 keeps needing new trousers because hers are at half mast. Both have been hungry babies, DD now lives on air, water and pom bears though.

DS is like this - never more than 25th centile for weight but always in the 95-off chart for length. He was wearing 9-12 months by 4 months old but they absolutely swam on him.

Wow so there's a real possibility she'll continue to be tall as she gets older then! I wonder...
Interesting because DH and I are not particularly tall, just average height..

DD was huge and so very long was over 6 months before she hit the length/height chart.

She stopped growing at 12/13 and is only 5'7" after having been over 90th centile for her life to that point. DH family are super tall and stopped growing young.

I'm 5'7, DH 5'8. My mum is 5'5, Dad 5'6. Mil is 5'5. FIL 5'10. So none of us particularly tall.

Dd was always in the 90s centile for her heigh too. She's now 3 and wearing 5-6 clothes for the height. Footless sleep suits were a saviour when she was a baby. We had a few from Debenhams that were nice and washed well but I don't know obviously what they have now.

DS was off the charts for height, but very near the bottom end of the scale for weight, and both traits just stayed with him.

Now in his mid-teens he is 6’3 so far, and has a swimmers build with long slim arms and legs, skinny hips and broad shoulders. I do wonder how tall he is going to be though, because he’s clearly still growing.

Ds was a long baby, barely used his Moses basket. Always over a head above his peers height wise, mistaken for 4 year old at 2 etc until year 2 of school when he just seemed to slow and he's now distinctly average height in his y5 class

DS2 was long at birth. The midwife weighed him twice as she thought she’d made an error as 4kg was too much for such a skinny baby. Still on the 95th for height. As is DS1 (who is currently wearing 6-7 shorts but 9-10 trousers for length). I’m 5’10” and DH is 6’ so no great surprise. Both sides of the family run to children who are ‘all legs’ so I expect them to continue that way.

Me! My baby was 67cm at 19 weeks. He has never fitted the right clothes for his age, we’ve always had to size up.

He’s only 6m now so don’t know how it will pan out. My husband and I are both very tall though so I would be surprised if he wasn’t.

I don’t know if he’s an especially hungry baby. He’s breastfed so I don’t know how much he consumes. He has taken to weaning very well though.

I was 59cm at birth. I was tall for my age and the tallest in the class right up until I was 12 and then everyone caught up with me. I stopped growing then and stayed my 12 year old height - 5 foot 7.

I know my mother had issues finding trousers that fit me for a long time - I wore a lot of skirts and dresses.

My DM remembers the midwife telling her that I'd be tall as I was a long baby, with a long back. DM didn't think so, she's only 5'3. I am 5'10!

DH is 6'5", I'm 5' 4". all of our boys were 55cm at birth (9lb 14 heaviest, 8lb 8 lightest) and DD was 53cm & 8lb 3.
all of them are tall for their age, always have been.

the oldest 4 passed my height by the time they were 13. I think DS2 did when he was 12.
He is a month shy of his 18th birthday and he's 6'7", on 100% for height since he was 1yo 😁

they will all be taller then me, no shadow of a doubt.

I am wondering the same question.. he is 9 weeks old and 66cm.. he was 50cm tall when he born
