Paramedic took blood from child heel

Tonight we called the ambulance out for my DS who was breathing irregular and shivering and had a high temperature.
They checked his temperature, blood sats and pulse and took a blood sample prick on his heel and tested it right away it gave them a number.
What would this have been for?
Thanks 😊

Blood glucose testing?

It will be sugars or a blood gas which will give them an indication of how well he is breathing and coping. Hope he's ok Thanks

Thanks all 😊
In the heat of the moment you just let them get on with it and forget to ask what is being done 😂
He is doing ok thank you, they said the breathing irregularities and shivering were his response to having a temperature (something which I haven't seen before when he's had high temps) it's something called rigor chills 🤷🏻‍♀️
They were amazing and so good with him and here within 5 mins. So lucky to have our nhs hero's ⭐️
A long night ahead but just got to keep and eye and bring the temp down 😊
They live to worry us don't they 🤯 x
