Hot weather and baby

Hi there. Anxious question from a ftm. My almost 8 week old has been sweaty the last few nights- 36.7 this morn and also I think I overdid the blankets in the last few weeks- he only sleeps well in a swaddle
I only started checking temp - ignorant first time parent😒
Hes seemed totally fine no dehydration. Can anyone reassure me - are there any lasting effects from getting abit hot/sweaty? Reading about overheating and brain damage

36.7 isn't a high temperature
If you are going to swaddle then reduce the clothing underneath

He'll be absolutely fine - some babies tend to get a bit sweaty at night and it's absolutely normal. If he still needs to be swaddled, I would use an oversized muslin as they're very thin and airy. An extra blanket won't have damaged his brain though!

Make sure when checking to see if he's hot/cold, check his neck and tummy. Extremities like arms and legs are not a good indicator.

Thanks so much for the replies! I have a light grobag that holds his arms but its not as good as the tight cellular blanket swaddle which gives him 4 or 5 hours sleep. He doesn't sleep very well in the heat either or else its because I dropped the tight swaddling and has been getting a 40 min cycle and 3 hours when he was totally exhausted. Also concerned lack of sleep is quite harmful for him. Have a fan now and going to use that as well

It's normal for babies that age to wake often and need comfort to go back to sleep. I wouldn't be worried about lack of sleep unless he was getting way below the average number of hours 🙂

The fan has helped my little one settle so worth a try!

Have you tried swaddling in a large muslin cloth? What's the temp in your room? My 9 week old is in a strappy vest with a 1 tog sleeping bag (it's as thin as a sheet) and it's between 22-24 degrees in our room for reference

I didn't know checking temperature was a thing? Also, I really don't think 36.7 is overheating. Babies temperature does tend to go up by the end of the day a little bit anyway. I'd say a a long as your DS is wearing a little vest under his swaddle blanket, he will be fine. Fan is also a good idea. Try leave the window a slightly open and position the fan so it will blow the fresh air around rather than the hot stuffy one.
