Is it ok to leave grobag unzipped?

For my 2 year old... only have a 1.5 tog grobag and it's boiling in his room but he won't sleep without a sleeping bag. I've ordered a 0.2 tog but not arriving until tomorrow.

I've unzipped the grobag so his legs are hanging out so he doesn't get too hot. Is this ok to do? From a safety point of view?

The room doesn't cool down much overnight even with windows open so don't want to zip close when I go to bed as he will be too hot

What's he wearing underneath?

elaeocarpus · 09/06/2021 21:45

Hmm, I'd say no, not safe. I would worry about either ending up with it over face, or twisted up around neck.
Pop on just a nappy and no clothes to keep cooler

A short sleeve t shirt. He will wake and not go back to sleep if he's not in a sleeping bag, this is the problem 🤔

How hot is the room?
1.5tog is usually OK for summer unless it's super hot

Cheeseplantandpickle · 09/06/2021 21:47

Just have a nappy on underneath. I wouldn’t leave it unzipped

seashellss · 09/06/2021 21:48

Monitor says 30 degrees but Gro egg says 27

And actually I’d say 1.5 is right for this weather. My two year old is in one with a short sleeved vest tonight.

Horehound · 09/06/2021 21:50

Hmm that is quite hot. Have you got a fan?

dementedpixie · 09/06/2021 21:50

Do you have a fan you can put it the room

seashellss · 09/06/2021 21:51

No fan

I would say it's fine especially for a 2year old. lots of two year olds sleep in a bed with a pillow and duvet after all. We used to do this a lot when our DD was younger but we'd usually zip her up when we went to bed once it has cooled down a bit. We did eventually get some 0.5 tog sleeping bags though which solved the problem really they're so thin they're just like sheets. Although it's very rarely hot enough in our house to use them.

dementedpixie · 09/06/2021 21:52

Maybe you should buy a fan as well as a lighter weight grobag

seashellss · 09/06/2021 21:53

Yes fan also being purchased.

We had a 0.5 tog for him last year but it's too small for him now and unfortunately the 0.2 one I've bought not coming until tomorrow

We're using a 1.5 tog but he's just in a nappy

AnonAnom940 · 09/06/2021 22:13

We're just in a sleeveless vest here. Very hot tonight. Can you remove the bag while he's asleep or will that disturb him?

seashellss · 09/06/2021 22:16

I've taken it off and put thin cotton pj bottoms on instead 👍🏻
