Hi ladies DS is 5 months I've started to wean him as his formula does not keep him full anymore. I've bought a lot of different purée for him to try and baby rice but every time I give him he fusses and spits it out I'm not sure what to do is this normal ?

Sounds like he isn’t ready. Formula is much more filling than fruit and veg. He needs more milk.

He might not have lost his tongue thrust reflex yet. I’d wait and try again in a few weeks.

He might not like purée. My second was like this. Wait until he's 6 months and start baby led weaning.
Also, food (purée or normal) won't fill them up for a while yet so if he's hungry, up his bottles.

It sounds like he isn’t ready. Did your HV or GP recommend early weaning? If so chat to them about it, but the spitting out suggests he still has his tongue thrust reflex and they need to grow out of that for successful weaning.

In the meantime, offer more milk. Even babies who are ready to wean take in such tiny quantities at first, and because it’s veggies it’s very low calorie, so it will be ages before he is eating enough to meaningfully fill him up.

I agree with the others. No need to wean until 6 months. Even then, they will be taking in a tiny amount of food and milk will be the main source of nutrition in the first year.

Some babies don't like to be spoon fed. It's fine if that's what you choose to do but I'd also recommend looking up baby led weaning. There's also no nutritional value in baby rice.

Best of luck!

Formula will keep him full, up his feeds. If he's not ready for it there's nothing you can do. Leave it til 6 months and do baby lead weaning.

He's not ready. My DD did the same at 5 months, at 6 months she started finger foods happily. Just offer more milk.
