Sleep training or fellow mums advice for nap hell!

My son is 4 months old and I am really struggling with trying to establish a routine for him and looking after my 2 year old toddler. I have been using awake windows and ‘trying’ to put down for a nap with sleep indicators etc. This has worked for a month or so, but I have had to rock him etc and then put into his cot almost asleep. Since the sleep regression has hit he is getting progressively worse at being put down for naps and I cannot spend the time with him to get him ready to sleep and look after my daughter at the same time. For some context, used to take 10 minutes- now can take hours and I just end up giving up as it’s not fair on my daughter to be entertaining herself for that long. I just want to be able to put my son down and for him to go to sleep independently. I know he can do this as he does this at night!!

Does anyone have any advice on what they have done that has worked for them? I am more of a routine person rather than just go with the flow!! It’s really starting to get me down now.

Will your baby sleep on the go? My baby would not be put down for naps until 8 months... Prior to that naps were contact or walks. I appreciate this isn't easy with a toddler. Just wondering if your baby would nap in the car or in the pram if you get out and about with your daughter.

I get that this isnt a solution as much as a means of survival...

You did mention you prefer a routine but might be worth looking into the possums approach. It may not suit you as it does involve abandoning timing naps and going with the flow.

Sleep training may provide a more liveable solution though, admittedly. There are also gentle methods if CIO puts you off.
