Shorts without vests...

So on hot days do you still put your babies in a vest underneath say shorts and a T-shirt? Don't know why I find it strange to have no vest on my ds, but I wouldn't wear two tops when it's 25 degrees!!

You could have a vest with shorts and no extra top. Or if its really hot just have the vest and no other clothes. Popper vests are good for keeping nappies in place

LemonLemonLemon · 02/06/2021 10:15

Not at all. You only have to put vests on if you feel like you need the extra layer on them. I gave up at 9m when it was too much of a fight hah

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 02/06/2021 10:15

I wouldn't put 2 layers, I'd probably go for vest and shorts or just the vest if hot, and skip the t shirt. I find tops without poppers round the nappy just ride up every time you pick the baby up.

My children are also always in vests! But when it gets to above 20 degrees I ditch the vest so they're in t-shirts and shorts /dresses without.

Caspianberg · 02/06/2021 10:18

I just do vest and shorts.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/06/2021 10:22

Vests and shorts. No top. That way you don't get bare bellies.

DS was a poorly prem and he had vests under everything until school had to tell me that he was having to come on at hot playtimes cos he was too warm and perhaps ditch the vests (he was 3). I felt crap but I was so convinced he would get I'll without a vest on every day. Needless to say I'm far more relaxed with toddler twins

My baby is in just a vest...

CorpusCallosum · 02/06/2021 10:28

We stuck with rompers in summer for this exact reason - just one layer.

I couldn't be bothered with vests which rode up exposing DDs tum all the time. Nor the double crotch layer situation with a vest and separate bottoms. Rompers all the way till standing changes were a thing.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 02/06/2021 10:31

My 14mo is in shorts and just a vest!

Getawriggleon · 02/06/2021 11:31

Vest & shorts or (my personal favourite) a romper.

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 02/06/2021 13:46

Rompers are massively cute - not as versatile as vests as they don't really layer as well, but I do love a romper!

bloodywhitecat · 02/06/2021 13:49

13 month old, short sleeved bodysuit and shorts. 6 day old, just a romper as she likes to be swaddled.

Lockdownbear · 02/06/2021 13:59

Top mum here I'll confessBlush
I roasting hot day, I dressed Baby in a vest, shorts & t-shirt, LO wasn't impressedHmm

So no the one more layer than you doesn't apply in summer.

BertieBotts · 02/06/2021 14:04

If they are tiny babies and not walking yet, I don't normally put shorts on them at all because I don't like the tucked in look of a vest, but I think loose tops ride up. I'd put rompers on them instead or just leave them in the vest with no trousers on at all.

Once they're toddling then yes I would do shorts and t-shirt without a vest under. Keep vests for spring/autumn/winter. And stop using baby vests at all at about 2 years old - at this stage I just get those normal vests which are like sleeveless tops, and only for use in winter.

My 6mo wore a strappy vest and shorts today, in fact, we ditched the shorts by lunchtime. Yesterday she just wore little shirt dungarees with nothing else on. Only one layer needed in this weather!

LakeShoreD · 02/06/2021 17:17

My 3MO is wearing a short sleeved vest and a pair of shorts. He was wearing an adorable romper but typically vomited on it and had to be changed before we went out.

boyse4 · 02/06/2021 19:18

Thanks everyone! I went for a romper!

I take vests off altogether for the summer.

Fleetw00d · 03/06/2021 21:09

My 8 week dd has just been in a romper or light dress the last few days while it's been so hot, at home she's just been a strappy vest or just nappy, but she's a very hot sweaty baby 🤣
