Nappy change

DD is now 1, she’s amazing! She’s walking steadily, started at 10 months, wants to talk, climbing and playing with interactive toys, she eats well, sleeps pretty well and all round fantastic kid... there’s only 1 problem- Bum change time 😒😖

She WILL NOT lay down for nappy change, and when she has done a soft poo it ends up EVERYWHERE!! And when I say everywhere, I mean... EVERYWHERE! On me, her, the table, the Matt, the carpet... you name- poos on it. Not only is it disgusting but it’s becoming a real hygiene issue as It’s getting in the carpet and it’s getting difficult to get out.

She’s on the go all the time, which I have no issue with apart from this point in my day where it becomes a poo war between myself and my daughter!!

Literally the only problem I’m having!! I hate to toot my own horn but we’re getting amazing other than this so if I can sort this one problem out I have the perfect child 😂😂

I can’t really give her a bottle because she associates the bottles she has with sleep now, and nothing works. Any tips??

Cheers ladies 🍷

To doing the best we can as mamas xx

I sat on mine when they were like that. No weight on them but kind of straddled them. So I'm facing the bum end. I'd make it a game and kind of wiggle my bum on their tummy. It sounds awful written down and I've deleted three times but it doesn't hurt and you can hold their body with your legs and then your hands are free to deal with the nappy. Mine always found it hilarious.

@CrackersDontMatter that had me in stitches.

DD was just like this. She never wanted to stop what she was doing. Play is an important job when you're a toddler.

So, I gave her a choice -nappy changes now or in a couple of minutes?
Then, a lot of warning so she can wrap up whatever important playing is going on.

Next - and this will feel counterintuitive - slow down the nappy change. Lots of eye contact and talking then through it. How many wipes will we need? Will this one be warm or cold? Oh it's cold! How exciting! Can you help me by lifting your bum up? That's so helpful, thank you! Now I can clean underneath.

When it becomes a time to bond with you, she'll enjoy it for it's own sake and become more amenable.

@Itsahardknocklife18 if this helps, we have a poo-monster too. I change in the bathtub. Take the fully clothed baby in, take clothes off, nappy off (ours are reusable so rinse in the loo), then wash baby, dry and done. Then he has a bit of off-nappy time, then I put fresh one on. Works (not when out and about, but luckily I have somehow managed to avoid this situation when not at home).

I noticed at about 1y that he was uncomfortable, and hated the change, so I made sure I showed no negative emotion at all, instead made it fun (play in the bath) rather than "OMG what a mess, again". It helped us massively.
