15 month old fever

FTM here and I’m shitting it.

My 15 month old has what we thought was a cold. Although he’s not really bunged up, his nose is streaming, he’s sneezing & has an occasional cough.

We’ve booked for a drive through covid test tomorrow but his temp worries me. Calpol brought it down earlier but within a couple hours it was higher than before at 38.9. I’ve just given him another dose and we are going to try and get him to sleep, but I’m so worried.

Can a common cold cause such a fever in toddlers? We have been so careful through out the pandemic and he attended his first ever play group last Thursday, so must have picked something up there. Sad

Yep common cold can cause high fevers in young children. I know it’s worrying but being exposed to virus is very important for his immune system. Lack of exposure has been linked to auto immune diseases.

It does happen as part of nasty colds but I’ve always taken the approach of phoning 111 if I’m worried just to get advice.

Thank you. I did ring 111 and they said someone will ring me back within 24 hours, so they don’t seem concerned. Confused
