Car sickness suddenly - any advice

My kids (3 and 5) have always been absolutely fine in the car. They’ve always watched videos on a tablet and the oldest plays games on hers. Never a hint of trouble and we’ve done lots of long car trips.

We just did a long trip with kids on tablets as usual. Within the first hour, both kids had been sick. After that we took the tablets off them, as I know that can make things worse. They weren’t sick again but it was pretty miserable as it was a 7 hour trip with little entertainment (other than sheep spotting).

Now I’m worried about the return journey (I hate sick and it was really distressing for my youngest who basically threw up all over herself and had to sit in it until we could stop).

Have others experienced this where car sickness suddenly starts? Is this the end of the tablets in the car? Or could it be a one off? We were stuck in traffic doing lots of stop-starting which made me feel a bit sicky so wondering if it could be that?

Get some Kwells, they have worked brilliantly for my kids. Mine we fine for years and then started with travel sickness as we pulled into the airport to go to Florida 🤢 since then they are really anxious about going anywhere and being sick! The Kwells seemed to have stopped them actually being sick though.
