Flying with 19 month olds questions

Hi, I've booked a return flight (hope it's going ahead) next year from London to Rome. Our baby DD will be 19 months by then. I'm aware so much changes and it's probably not the best time to fly, but we are catching up on missed experiences this past year.

Anyway, she's a big girl, top percentile. Should I book an extra seat for her? If I do can she just sit in the normal adult seat?

Any other tips for a short haul flight with a 19mo?

Thank you!

Yes, get another seat. Take lots of snacks and stickers and a change of clothes for both of you.

Thanks @Fitforforty

Okay for her to sit in an adult seat with normal seat belt on?

Yeah I would get another seat!
Plenty things to occupy!

She will have to sit on your knee for take off and landing but the rest of the time she will be climbing over you and her seat anyway. You won’t be able to keep her sitting down with a belt on.

Depends how happy you are to spend but I never got a separate seat and did lots of short haul flights - it didn’t seem worth the money given they are crawling all over you anyway.

On another note I recommend lots of blueberries and downloaded tv on your phone. Books and small toys will only get you so far if she’s active.

You can get harnesses to use, or some car seats are airline approved.

How long is the flight? Under 90mins it might not be worth the extra seat as the seatbelt sign will be on a lot of time.

I never bothered with a second seat. Save the money.

I did a 4 hour flight with DS1 when he was 17 months. He drank a huge amount of water on take off, wetted through his nappy and soaked my jeans in wee...

YorkshireLassie85 · 27/05/2021 19:59

Haha @Iknowtheanswer that sounds bad! I'll try not to do that then!

Not sure of flight time - probs about 2 hours?

So, snacks, new toys, stickers, videos, spare clothes.
