Remote control cars or robot toys. You can get some very easy young child friendly ones.
Racing track type of toy.
Age appropriate Lego set.
Science experiment kit
Some outdoor toys. Badminton, cricket set. A paddling pool. Hoping weather will change and he can have fun in the garden.
A nice jacket or shoes. Keep receipt so parents can exchange.
You could always ask parents, what the child is into and buy that.

Lego
Card games - monopoly deal, exploding kittens
Book voucher

My boys 7 next week and I found him really hard this year! He likes the George's marvellous medicine book by RD. I've got him some science stuff, crystals, trading cards, a sword and I think my parents have got him some no minecraft figures he wanted.
