Suddenly hates nursery

I don’t know if anyone has gone through the same.
My 2 and half year old has gone to nursery since he was 1 years.
He has always loved it ... to the extent of telling me to take him at one stage

But 3 weeks ago that all changed ... my husband did see another toddler push him when picking him up ( not over but he did push him ) and Thomas was upset.

Since then he has been crying and getting upset when it is time to go.

We have been working with the nursery and telling them, we are aware our son is not boisterous like some of the other toddlers, he speaks enough well for his age and enjoys small world play more than rough and tumble .. he does have good friendships but it’s clearly playing on his mind .. he keeps having bad dreams and crying out”no .... “ ( and the name of the other little boy.

I noticed yesterday after having my first play date out of nursery since covid he is very sensitive to other kids being told off he looks worried.

He has got super clingy to me and doesn’t want me to how he was.

Anyone got any advise on how to help him work through this? Or had similar experience?
